MBM/Ideal/Destroyit 4002 cross cut shredder reverse but no forward

Removed all paper debris from shredder and changed 2 gears in gearbox thought to have had wear but in retrospect were probably okay. Shredder goes in reverse but when press forward with paper in entrance get motor hum sound and then circuit breaker trip. Never actually rotates forward.

However, can turn motor forward or reverse manually. Please advise as to next step as shredders serviced only occasionally.Frank/ActionPhotocopy

I'd say the control board is the most likely suspect, although double check to make sure the entrance sensor isn't blocked. And maybe check the bin full switch for proper operation, that could stop forward rotation of the shredding unit. Although I can't see how that would cause the breaker to open, so maybe not.
That's some really sticky grease they use on those drive gears, isn't it? Seems to work well, but it's still no fun washing your hands after handling them. Or at least I didn't think it was much fun.

Machine is working. Not sure but think bin full switch was activated while trying to shred paper. Frank

Not certain about specific models, but some mid-size and larger shredders use either a start relay or start capacitor to simulate triple phase power. If there is a problem with the start relay not pulling in properly or a short in the start capacitor, the motor will try to turn in both directions at the same time. Results is it will hum for a few seconds at most before blowing fuse or circuit breaker.

Had thought about that and swapped connecters on the 2 identical capacitors but did not change outcome. Still not sure why machine started working. Thanks for the input which makes a lot of sense. I had asked a tech friend same thing. "Can the machine be trying to go forward and reverse at same time". He said, "I don't know". Then we swapped the capacitors and still got tripped circuit breaker. Next mornig make sure bin switch not engaged and the machine starts working. Miller time.
