    SMTP settings in a printer

    Hi

One of our customers has settings configured before delivery, things like default colour / b/w copy setting, ntp server address etc

I had to do a few Kyocera pa5000 and didn't think there would be SMTP settings in a printer, I was wrong I could set the SMTP server address in the RUI ( command centre )

I thought SMTP was only for sending scans to email, so why would there be settings for this in a b/w printer

I'm not familar with this printer but is it able to send a notification report via email?

I don't know all it wanted was a default address and sender address, I put this here rather than the kyocera forum since it possibly applies to other makers.

It allows the printer to send email alerts for things like low toner, paper jams, or other issues that need intervention; it's handy for environments where SNMP or other monitoring isn't available. Some manufacturers also use it to permit automated metre submission.

I've got one left to do, I will take a closer look at the smtp settings tomorrow.

There must be more SMTP settings to get this to work. It's going to need the SMTP server name or IP address. It will also need user name and password if they are using SMTP authentication. It needs all the same info as an MFP that's scanning to email.

At least that's the way in is with Ricoh printers, I'm not 100% sure about this Kyocera.

Yep and it also needs internet access (correct gateway) or it's never gonna work.

                  That would be my guess.

                    OMG

Kyocera had this feature for for over a Decade in every printer and copier

                    Nothing new
You setup it the same as a copier

How embarrassing for someone who's supposed to be a dealer and has OEM training

That information should come from the customer, I.E. their email provider.

Usually their ISP It needs all the same info as an MFP that's scanning to email.

You do not need to setup users and destinations. And it seems a lot simpler than @remote.

Your post was technically answered correctly on the first page the rest is a waste of time from NON IT or NON Kyocera trained technicians
