    Kyocera Print Driver and HP compatibility issue

    I have a bank with a proprietary software. They said they can only use an HP PCL 5e printer. I convinced them that the Kyocera FS-4020dn would work for them.

    After installing everything worked fine except for two documents they routinely print. It is a form they generate whenever they open new accounts.

    On the Kyocera the third line of text from the bottom prints on top of the fourth line from the bottom, leaving the third line blank.

    HP prints fine, Kyocera messes up. I tried using the KX driver in PCL5e mode as well as the Uni PCL 5e driver. I also tried changing the print processor to the same print processor used in the HP printers. They all yielded the same results. The emulation on the machine was set to KPDL (auto) and I did not think any other emulation would work.

    Any ideas?

    Try Hp Drivers instead of the Kyro drivers?

        Wonder if the machine is replacing your fonts with other fonts or maybe the Dot Pitch?

        We had a customer using a Savin 4022 that printed fine from Access. Changed to Savin 9040 and nothing but junk. Compared all the print processor info and discovered that one said UTF-8 and old one was Roman 8.

        I'm not familiar with Kyro, but if they say they are HP Compatible, like Savin States and has worked with HP then surely Kyro tech can figure this one out. Maybe custom fonts that are not on machine?

          It does not look like any type of custom font. Like I said it is only happening to this one document and only one line in the document. It is almost like there is some type of ASCII code being sent to the printer that the Kyo is seeing but the HP is not.

                Is this something that is done at the printer control panel? Also, about disabling printer fonts, you hare saying there is a setting for that in the driver, where? I did not see anything like that.

                  I don't know if it will help, but here is the PreScribe command to change to 62 lines per inch:

                  !R! FRPO U0,5; FRPO U1,63;EXIT;

                  The way this works is that (U0) + (U1/100) = # lines per inch
                  5 + 63/100 = 5.63 lines per inch
                  5.63 x 11 = 61.93 lines per page

                  To restore the default if/when it doesn't work:

                  !R! FRPO U0,6; FRPO U1,0;EXIT;

                  6 + 0/100 = 6 lines per inch
                  6 x 11 = 66 lines per page

                  Enjoy =^..^=

                    I had a similar problem with a Konica Minolta C252 at a county clerks office. They were using a text-based program to generate reports. The issue was resolved by changing the CR/LF Mapping.
                    I don't know anything about the menu interface for your particular machine but looking through the Advanced User Guide it seems there are CR/LF settings(CR Action and LF Action in the manual). Maybe try playing with those will resolve.

                      Are you able to send commands to this printer?

                      Use a Kyocera utility like IC Link or KM-Net Viewer, or this nice simple java based utility caller LPR Jar. With IC Link or KM-Net Viewer (broadcast function) you can type or copy/paste your command into the "text" line, then send. Or you can browse to a Notepad, Wordpad, or Textpad file containing the command.

                      For LPR Jar, write the command into a Notepad, Wordpad or Textpad file. Place the file in the same folder with the LPR utility. Open the utility, enter the IP address of your printer, Choose your file, then click Send.

                      It's that easy. =^..^=
