Kyocera Taskalfa 221 Scanner "Cannot find destination PC".....

New installation of a Taskalfa 221. The software and scanner utilities all loaded fine and was able to set up scanner folder, and the software included found and talked to the scanner (giving it destination folders ect on 221's screen) but when I attempt a scan to PC I get the message "Cannot Find Destination PC".

The client is running Windows 7 (all manuals are written for XP) and when I called the help desk I was told possible three problems 1. Virus protection on. 2. Firewall protection still on. 3. Port 31700 Blocked. I had already off Numbers 1 and 2 and do not know how to solve the third prob (they have to call their ISP?) So the help desk was not able to help.

These people are long-time customers and have no network admin, so thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

If they have no IT staff (read: complicated network) I wouldn't think this port is blocked by default.

Did you try IP vs. hostname?

Try to ping one PC from another, see if you get a reply.

Try a crossover connection with a company laptop, to test the copier.

P.S. every Kyo Webinar I have watched, touts their remote support capabilities. Do not let them talk their way out of it. Demand they attempt a session to help you.

      221 scanner

9 out of 10 cannot find pc errors are either scan file utility isnt running on the pc .make sure it is running and dont make the mistake of clicking the X on the top right corner as this turns it off.the other thing to check is make scan file utility an exeption in windows firewall and also in their anti virus program.last thing is setup the scan file utility .
when the folder is on your task bar R click on it and and disable it so you can go to setup, find the folder you have made (ie scans or what you have named it ).then fingers crossed it will work.dont forget to turn it back on after you have finished the setup bit.
      hope this helps , brian

ok here are a couple things to try in no particular order
        1. network the pc with windows 7 to a pc or laptop with windows xp and make sure you can move files across and make sure you can open them on the recipient's windows 7 pc

        2. verify all your settings on the copier

        3. make sure your windows 7 settings match the ones in the link below

windows 7 scan to smb settings

They just did a new revision of the SMB guide that gets them as far as Vista. I will make another SC today and see if the port numbers the new guide gives will work. Printed out the materials linked and will give it another shot. Thanks for the replies so far.

I just set one up (221/Windows 7). using the latest SFU on kmaconnect and had no probs setting it up. just watch firewalls and make sure folder is shared.

Turns out that the software did not give the correct IP for the address of the computer (a ping finally corrected that) and they did a remote support to add another intermediate folder to which the scanner could send files. IPCONFIG over their address software I guess atm.
