Scan to email Yahoo and AOL problems

Beginning last week we have been barraged with calls from customers who's scans to their yahoo and AOL email accounts will not come through. The copiers are working properly without error but the scans are either being picked off as spam or spoofs. It is only the AOL and yahoo email addresses that are having this problem. You can scan to a Comcast email or any other email address from the devices just fine.

Anybody else seeing this? What are you advising your customers to do?

I should also add that I am having this issue with Ricoh equipment. In my research on the web I see questions from Xerox customers having the same issue as well.

Re: Scan to email Yahoo and AOL problems

I have had the same problem. Both Yahoo and AOL are now rejecting any incoming email for which the domain of the SMTP server does not match the domain of the sender. This is a new email policy being used by some email accounts to cut down on spam. Yahoo was the first I encountered it on and about a week later on AOL. I was able to track the problem because at the first account with the problem on Yahoo, the sender was getting back a undeliverable message from Yahoo. I had her print me a copy of the message and then did a little googleing.

As an example, most recent occurrence the customer's ISP was birghthouse. The outgoing SMTP domain was bak.rr.com. She had been her AOL account as both the destination and sender. Configure the authentication address as the supervisor email account and turned on auto specify sender. Instructed the customer not to select sender. Problem solved.

I've never been fond of an e-mail service that has tacky adverts on their login page!

      Just my 2 cents worth!

Re: Scan to email Yahoo and AOL problems

I had this problem last week on a Bizhub C35. The scan to email would be delayed (10 minutes or more) going to an AOL, Gmail, or Yahoo address, or just not go through at all. But the scan to email would send an email to my personal work email address at a normal speed. Our email server is an exchange server.

The fix was to change the device email address. It was xxxxxxx@aol.com. Although I changed the device email to a nonfunctional address, it worked. I would suggest that the @aol.com was the problem, likely causing spam filters to delay the email or just not send it at all.
