    Canon iRC5185 error E000014-0001

I am out of town, but my office emailed me this error code. I found similar posts so I believe it's indicating the fuser. The machine was purchased used so it's quite possible the fuser is at EOL. I have two spare machines I can swap parts from, I just wanted to confirm if this is the fuser assembly or what it is.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi.
Yes it could be the fuser.
Or the fixing motor that attaches to fuser

Good idea remove the whole unit from one and plug into other.
Providing the spare machine doesnt have issues with fixing.

Is that suggesting it could just be a drum/toner needed reseated or replaced?

Finally got back to the office. 1st thing I did was reseat all the drums/toners before turning it on. After I turned it on, it indicated a jam in the fuser. I removed that (jammed paper was laying on top of the fuser. then after it warmed up, printed 20 pages. All fine.

I'm assuming my reseating did nothing and the problem was the jam on top of the fuser. But I would think they would have gotten a jam and not the error code. Of course I was not here when it happened, and my users are a bit technically challenged. Will monitor.

Unit is still working, no error codes, but now says at the bottom of the display "the fixing unit needs to be replaced. Call service rep".

Being that I have two spare parts machines, would it be easiest just to replace the whole assembly with the fuser that slides out? I have the service guide and, not being a copier technician, looks like a lot of extra steps to get the the fixing unit itself.

                Hi
i would suggest going into service mode and clearing the msg
                then running fixing calibration
                upper belt. Lower belt.
if one of belt calibration is off in conjuction to home position this will correct. You will get ok! Or ng! Or machine will error code..

                Its easy to remove..
                1.Power off. Unplug power plug.
                2.pull out fuser transport bed.
3.two chrome screw near side. Rear side. Look fromTop side
                Down into transport bed.
4.remove plastic cover two screw have washers on them.
                5. Under black cover small Fan lead. Remove. ( remember to fit)
                Throws a error code out)
                6. Where the connector is on same side fixing motor etc
find main connector chrome looking. Just below it is a chrome screw remove with small screw driver.

now.. comes the fun bit.. hold the handle on the fuser
and lift. Try pulling and tilting same time direction of turnaround bed.

it will not lift up and out. Have to shift to right to clear its path and up.

.. the turnaround guide tilt up a little at same time to give clearence .

give it a go.. but have some patience..

                cheers...

                  Under fixing i see 3 options NIP-CHK FX-UHP-S FX-LHP-S

                  Do i run all 3?

I tested it on one of my spare machines that works fine with no errors and the lhp came back NG. Rebooted and it is fine so I'm not sure what that means on that other machine.

                    Hi,

The Nip check is not that important.

                    the other two are.
they should both come back ok!.

If they do not, then there is an underlining issue with the belts.
in your case the lower belt..

i would suggest running the machine until it decides to drop the relevent error code next or will prompt immediate shutdown if it
has issue. Theses belts are well protected.
The fact it has not given you an error code give false hope all is well. It may work for week or two. But it will fail and error code.

                    ..hope it helps..
                    ..

                    Cheers

On last thing on the original machine that had the error code and jam, the fixing unit tests said OK! machine is working fine, just the message saying Fixing unit needs replaced. Call svc. I assume the message is due to it being pasts it's count life and I can use it until it errors out or quits working and then replace it? In other words does it hurt anything else to continue using it?
