[Misc] Scan to email stops working (smtp.gmail.com)

recently we are facing problem when sending scan to email by using gmail smtp settings in IRC 5185, it just showing re-sending.

it was working fine, did gmail changes its policy or something? do we need to smtp port setting?

I have had that a manual login is needed from time to time. Just opening the gmail account from a computer gets it running again.

It just sent out an email that google changed the gmail setup again to "prevent" unwanted usage. I do not have the work around yet but there is one I was told.

Re: Scan to email stops working (smtp.gmail.com)

I am having a similar issue recently (Since Oct 29/30th 2015) where all of our gmail SMTP connected ir3025/3035/3045 series machines fail with #753. Upon trying to send machine immediately indicates "Resending" and hands for quite a while until the resulting error of #753 is indicated in the log.

The strange thing is an iR2270 here with the same settings works flawlessly. To clarify we currently have 2 devices side by side on the same network (1 iR2270 and 1 iR3035). Bothe devices have the following settings:

            • SMTP Server = smtp.gmail.com
            • SSL for SMTP = ON
            • SMTPTX port = 587
            • SMTP Auth = on
            • gmail username and password are entereds in authetication settings.
            • "Allow less secure devices" enabled in the gmail account.

The iR 2270 works every time and the iR3025 fails every time with "Resending" message and eventual #753 code. What is different about the iR 3025?

We also have several failed iR3025 series machine in the field currently that are all using gmail as SMTP . Anybody else seeing these issues? Seems to only be related to this series (and possibly the iRC5185 as stated earlier in these posts)

            Any help/suggestions appreciated.

            UPDATE

Looks like the Konica/Minolta guys are having the same issues........

Looks like Google implemented a change in TLS from 1.0 to 1.2

Anybody have access to Canon USA e-support site to see if there is any word on this issue there?

            Thanks,

                SMTP server: aspmx.l.google.com (that's a lowercase L)
                Port: 25
                Authentication: None
                SSL for SMTP: Off

Thanks for the info Sharptech1, but this only works in customer accounts where port 25 is not being blocked by the ISP. We have been moving towards keeping our fleet of machines set at port 587 with SSL/TLS because of this very issue.

                  Thanks for the response though.

Just found out about the KM update today while we were fighting a c754. Firmware update per the bulletin absolutely solved the issue which is awesome because I have about 10 acounts waiting for a resolution.

On a related note, east week we had a few e series that we had to remove the SSL certificate.

This got my Canon iR3035 back up and sending scans out to emails. However, I had to turn error reports off because everything I scan now comes out with a "TX/RX Incomplete" error report. However, these reports also say "Transaction OK" and the scanning definitely works. I will continue to play around with it but thanks for this fix in the meantime.

This worked for me. I'm using a Canon IR30356 and the scan to email mysteriously stopped working around Halloween (I later found out this was probably due to Google updating their security settings). While this alternate SMPT server is currently working for me, we are receiving a warning message with every email saying that it might not be safe. Also, the original serve would save all scans in the Gmail sent box assigned to the Canon. With this alternate server, it no longer does.

All in all, this was pretty much a life saver as we now have scan to email functionality back. However, I would like to figure out the problem and get back onto my old server, which I believe was safer. I also really need to get the scans to save to the sentbox again.

Anybody found an answer to this issue? We moved some of our 3025/3035/3045s to outlook.com accounts (virtually the same setup as Gmail) as a work around. This worked for a while but now outlook.com has implemented the same TLS update and this solution will no longer work either 😕

Any talk of a firmware update for these devices or is it time to send out the sales team to upgrade these things?
