For occasions like this when we cant use a customers own email credentials, its best to use our own. Since the email is used only for authentication, I will use an email address that doesn't require SSL. If you dont have one you could go to Network Solutions and have then make one with your own domain or one you make at the time. The whole cost is $65 a year and that's with domain privacy. It saves a lot of time esp when dealing with machines that cant use a SSL email address for Auth. The Net Sol SMTP server doesn't require SSL

just to update on this. Canon has updated firmware for some models recently that allows you to turn off SSL 3.0 and force send via TLS which has allowed us to get out gmail smtp users back up and going.

Until today our Xerox customers were still out of luck. Just out of the blue I decided to try to setup the customers using the aspmx.1.gmail.com port 25 and failed so put back in their old information using port 587 and starttls. Started going through. Think google may have made a change or did something on their end to enable some more compatibility in sending via their smtp but have been unable to find anything.
