Canon iR4245 E000020-0000 Code

Hello all,

Today I had a service call for a code E000020-0000 on a iR 4245. Usually I work on Sharp, Kyo, HP and such in our dealership. However, we do have that one customer that requests we work on his Canons as well. Fortunately, I usually can figure out the issue. Not today though, ugh.. The manual that I have covers the 4051/4045/etc... I have not been able to source a proper manual so that would be my first request.

Any help on this error would be much aappreciated.

Normally an E-020 is toner supply, lack there of.

The path between the sub hopper and the developing assembly is clogged with toner.
The Developing Assembly Toner Sensor (S25) detects the absence of toner, while the Sub Hopper Toner Sensor (S26) detects the presence of toner. With the Developing Cylinder Clutch (CL3) turned on, the hopper feed screw motor (M16) is rotated for 1 sec intermittently 194 times; still, the Developing Assembly Toner Sensor (S25) does not detect the presence of toner. * Error occurs after the delivery if a paper in passage exists.

Remedy :-))
1. Check the rotation of hopper motor gear. (If rotating, false detection by the sensor is doubted.
Feed the toner to the developing unit in service mode: COPIER > FUNCTION > INSTALL > TONER-S.)
2. Replace the Developing Assembly Toner Sensor (S25).
3. Replace the Sub Hopper Toner Sensor (S26). 4. Replace the DC Controller PCB (UN2).

Check the developer drive gear. The clips wear out and comes off. There is a new style clip for them. I did not get a code, just a call for blank copies. Sometimes it codes and sometimes not.

Yes, i noticed the clip missing back there and temporarily bent a paperclip until replacing. Although i cleared the code and cycled power only to come back to same error.
I will check the hopper and feed toner as teckat suggested.

Any ideas where i can source a manual would be helpful.

Yes, i noticed the clip missing back there and temporarily bent a paperclip until replacing. Although i cleared the code and cycled power only to come back to same error.

Update: On thursday morning when I returned to the customer with a plan the canon was operating just fine. Wednesday night I had left it powered down. Thursday morning upon firing up the machine the code did not return and ran fine as made multiple prints and copies. This left me scratching my head and questioning what was going on. I left the customer and hoped that were the end of that. However, my hopes were dashed when promptly Friday morning I received a call from the customer the code had returned.

At this point I plan to return Monday morning and proceed as I had initially planned thursday morning. Would a failed PCB cause intermittent error?

Update: On monday morning the machine seems to be running just fine. Apparently the customer can power down the machine for a while and restart to clear code until it returns.

If customer keeps restarting that printer when a error code keeps popping up, u will run it into other issues.
U need to inspect hopper operation, sub hopper, and developer as I posted above.

Or I need to call for a Trained Tech on product.

I have the same problem with Canon IR Advance 4051, do you have new replacement part number for paper clip
