[Error Code] 000012-0206 and 0204A - IR Advance C5030

Canon IR Adv. C5030 / Ser# GNG35555 / Total Prints 240,415
Copier located in Prescott, AZ Mountains. Hard to get to. Need help before I go.
This code returns or changes between 000012 -0206 and 0204.
-Suggests drum rotation issue among other things (ITB, Drum Driver PCB, ITB Blade)
Having worked in the industry since '86, I know that great techs sometimes find something that consistently fails across the board on a particular unit.
My Question.
Do any of you guys have inside info on this code that comes from experience. Maybe a "GO HERE FIRST" type tip. I am toying with just replacing the magenta drum first.
This is a pretty clean unit so I don't think it's a sensor, however, I am aware that there is a Tech Pub (N08-051) on this unit as regards addressing an E012-0x04 code.
This suggests replacing the Drum Encoder PCB Assy. Would this cause my error codes as well.
I sold it used with no history and it has been very reliable up to this point.

Clean the drum encoder disc slots and photo interrupt. The disc rubs on inside of sensor and creates plastic dust that contaminates the sensor. Clean the disc and sensor(blow out with a straw). 5 minute fix

Along with this I have had cleaning blade flip stopping drum from rotating. Only two in all the machines I have.

At the risk of sounding a bit moronic... need a bit of guidance. This is my only unit like this in the field.
It seems the Tech pub modification will fix this, my only question is where to find the encoder(s).
I've replaced one drum unit so I know how to get in there and I did do a bit of cleaning and it seemed to work awhile, however the code came back and seems to get worse as it goes.
Are the encoders in the back of the machine, top right corner?
Again, this unit is up in the hills and I need to be sure before I go.

I cleaned all four discs and reader slots twice. Once using canned air, second time using a small brush with air again.
It still goes into E0000-0206 after a few copies.
Could the encoder discs be slightly scored to where it can no longer be properly read by the sensors or is there another possible issue with this code?
Everything looks fine. Wasn't much visible dust...
Really appreciate the help.

Along with this I have had cleaning blade flip stopping drum from rotating. Only two in all the machines I have.

I'm thinking a flipped blade would be highly evident on any copies that do get through.The copies look fine when it prints.
Cleaned the encoders twice to no avail.
Short of beginning replacement "surgery", what might be the best sequence.
Being in the mountains north of Phoenix, I am the main go to guy with a lot of machines that have no dealer up here.
Folks are a bit testy about going to "The big city" so I'm doing my best (since 1996) here.
Worked for Delson and Mid-Hudson in New York as well as a small outfit in Yuma,AZ.

A flipped blade or bad drive coupling gears would leave some print issues. The encoding wheels are very fine, and easily scored. It's possible one of them has been scratched up a bit. Note: During this models prioduction, they switched to a wider encoder reader, the older style were very close to the wheel and did cause sensor blockage and wheel damage.

Sub codes 0204 and 0206 point to Magenta drum unit.

I would bring an ITB cleaning blade with you, and some drum setting powder to put on the belt and blade. Sometimes the blade squeals on this series if there's not enough dry lube. Also check the error history... if you see an E075, you're also going to need to replace the ITB assembly.

My usual first step- Remove and reseat the process unit...sometimes you get lucky. Since you've already gone this far in though, I'd replace the ITB blade, and make sure the drive roller on the ITB unit is clean. If you get some belt slippage, that can pop the 012 errors as well.

Here's the info from the service manual....

For 0204 Sub Code-
1. Take out the Drum Rotation Sensor to clean the Sensor(UN33, UN34) and the Wheel.■
2. Replace the Drum Rotation Sensor Wheel.■
3. Replace the Drum Rotation Sensor.■
4. Replace the Drum Driver PCB (UN4)

For 0206 Sub-
1. Check connection of the connector with the Drum Motor
(M2)■
2. Check connection of the connector with Drum Driver PCB
(UN4).■
3. Check the ITB (to see if the ITB is displaced/damaged.
Refer to E075 if the ITB is displaced).■
4. Replace the ITB Cleaning Blade.■
5. Replace the Drum Driver PCB (UN4)

All this said, there's also a Tech Pub out there (TP11 361) with an updated part number for the new Encoder wheel and assembly as a countermeasure.

Was Thinking That Might Be The Case.

QUESTION: How should I approach this? Replace each wheel and each reader or just go with the whole pcb?

I've got numbers and prices on the readers and wheels (about $120.00 to $150.00 total cost). Just looks time consuming. Not sure of price on pcb yet.

Manual showed a grouping of boards and the DDPCB seems small and in a different location than where I am working on the wheels and readers.
Ordered the ITB Blade
Reseated the processing unit more than once.
Found an OEM ITB for about $150.00
Found a used (Checked out) DD PCB for about $30.00 (Do you recommend new?)
Question: Wouldn't the copier signal an end to the ITB or do they occasionally go bad?

For that code Canon support site points to encoder disks mostly. I think you may be able to move drums from one color to the other to troubleshoot or maybe encoders. Mine was a blade flip in black but it could be something else. I have a lot of these machines. I pull the drum unit drawer out and look in the back to developer and drum drive. I have had those couplings go bad or come off (two developer drive couplings on main drive unit). I think you could swap the drums around to troubleshoot. For me I just refer to the color of the error. Error code E012 0X04 is generated due to a lack of rotation of the specified photo drum{X= 1(Y), 2(M), 3(C), 4(K)}

Change drum positions. If it changes sub code then drum is the issue. Cheat the front and itb cover interlocks and look if drums rotate
