Are you sure the M-Drum isn't damaged ? Try swaping one with another machine if possible. Same for the ITB, check for damage..

    E021-0120-05: Developing
    screw rotation detection

    [Symptom]

    Developing screw rotation detection

    [Cause]

Error in the difference between the maximum and the minimum of ATR
    Sensor (M) detection value.

[Remedy]Possible cause: The screw is not rotating due to failure in the
coupling between the main body and the Developing Assembly, or the value of ATR
Sensor (M) (UN40) failed to be read due to an electrical trouble.
    1. Remove the Drum Unit (M) and check no damage. (Replace the Drum
    Unit (M) if defective)
    2. Lift the pressure lever after the Drum Unit (M) is pushed all the
    way in.
    3. Check failure of the harness between the Drum Unit (M) and the DC
Controller PCB (UN09/J25) (trapped cable, open circuit, connector
    disconnection)
    4.Check the Drum Unit Relay PCB (M) (UN27) (Soil/ deformation/
    damage)
    5. Check the Drum Unit Memory PCB (M) (UN31) (Soil/ damage)
    6.Replace the Drum Unit (M)
    7. Replace the DC Controller PCB (UN09).
    8. Replace the Main Drive Unit

    On the E74-000 i found :

E074-0000 : Due to such as
Fixing Drive Unit, Primary Transfer Disengagement Switch, ITB Unit, or Main
    Drive Unit failure [G]
    [Symptom]

An E074-0000 Error Code is Displayed. E074 is an Error in the Primary Transfer Disengagement Control.

    [Remedy]

Check SW1 ( Primary Transfer Disengagement Switch) for Displacement,
Replace the Main Drive Assembly if Needed, FM4-7716.

      Thanks Johan,

I've just tried to use another M drum from a working machine but still the error appears. ITB as well looks perfect - hardly used. So by elimination it can't be anything to do with the Memory PCB or the ATR sensor?

I'm just trying to work through the list of checks: do you know where the Drum relay PCB is located? Can't find it on the service manual...
That leaves the DC controller and the Main drive. I have already tried both of those but no luck.

Just checking, to replace the DC controller, what is the correct procedure if it not new?

Also backup the DC Controller PCB SRAM i believe.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
A picture is worth a thousand words

            Hello Sir

if you getting both errors then i would say its the main drive thats giving you headaches.

both errors relate to main drive

do you notice that magenta gets lighter down the page when you do a pg 10 (im guessing mc does boot up).

              Hi Peter,

Thanks for the advice, I managed to get to the bottom of the issue.
The E021-0120 was remedied by the replacement of the Main drive, you are correct. The E074 was still present though. After checking the connectors and everything, replacing the Fixing drive ass'y solved the E074.

Don't ask me how but it did, thanks for the help from everyone.

              Ben

Hi Ben, well done in resolving this issue and feeding back to us. I have had similar issue before. Just to throw more light on the E074 which you resolved by replacement of the fixing drive assy. The coupler on the fixing drive assy merges with coupler on ITB primary rollers lifting mechanism. Thus a faulty fixing motor/fixing drive assy will result in E074.
