I have an old (> 10 years) Canon Imagerunner 6255 that came off an old lease. I have kept it going for the last 5 years. In the last year, the touch screen became flaky. At first it takes multiple tries to hit a "button", but I can still use it. Now, the touch screen is almost totally non-responsive. All of the physical buttons are not working either except for the Power/Sleep button. I have took the control panel apart and cleaned the touch screen edges. I disconnected the touch screen connector to see if I can get the physical buttons to work without success. The machine starts fine with no errors showing. The LED lights on CPU board 1 and 2 are lit. I can still use the machine as a printer. Without the use of the physical keys, I am dead in the water. There is a mention of faulty CPU board related to the clock signal. Here are some of my questions.
- Is this related to the CPU board under the control panel or the main CPU board? I don't want to spend much on this old work horse. My current control panel board version is FM4-9880.
- Can I just update the firmware to correct this issue? Is the new firmware compatible with the old boards. Can firmware be updated without the use of the control panel?
- Can the batteries on the main CPU board 1 and 2 be related to this issue? I am sure the old button batteries on those boards are long gone by now.
Thanks for all of the help and I will buy people coffee once the issue is resolved.
