    Connecting a copier to a laptop by ethernet cable

    Need basic instruction\help to connect a Canon ir C3480 copier to a laptop by ethernet cable. A stand alone laptop not on a network.

    Looking to set up scanning is the final goal.

    Going through the manuals getting nowhere.

    Thank You

    u can use a Crossover cable for connection

    If your computer's NIC supports 'Auto Cross', then you can connect your computer directly to another computer or a Canon device with either a patch (straight through) cable or a crossover cable. Either cable type will work.

    If your computer's NIC does not support 'Auto Cross', then you must use a crossover cable in order to connect your computer directly to another non 'Auto Cross' computer or a Canon device. Alternatively, you could use two patch (straight through) cables with a hub or switch to connect the two devices.

      I am getting the following in the dialog box when running Windows Network Diagnostics "Local area connection 3doesn't have a valid IP Configuration"

      Before there was nothing.

          I set it;

          laptop: 192.168.1.100
          255.255.255.0

          copier: 192.168.1.110
          255.255.255.0

          I can ping the copier from the laptop.

          ping the laptop from the copier no response

          The RUI does not reply

          FWIW the laptop has a
          Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller, laptop is Dell M6500 workstation, under Windows 7

            Which cable are you using? Ethernet crossover or straight through with a hub\switch? Refer to teckat's first post.

              Re: Connecting a copier to a laptop by ethernet cable

              Connected with a networking cable direct from the laptop to the copier.

              I am now getting ping reply in both directions;

              Copier to laptop respond

              laptop[by cmd] to copier respond

              RUI not connecting

              What am I doing wrong

                ---------------
                Copier can be pinged but you can not open RUI or print to it.

                The problem may be caused by the IP address Range setting being set to on but no IP address is specified.
                To check or change the IP Address Range settings select Additional Functions > System Settings > Network Settings > TCP/IP settings > IPv4 > IP Address Range settings and set all options to Off.
                In this screen there are 4 sub menus, [Reject IPv4 Address], [Permit IPv4 Address], [Reject IPv4 Address] & [Permit IPv4 Address]. Go into each one of these sub menus and set them to Off.
                Next power cycle the copier and test.

                also Under>
                Additional Functions>System Settings>Restrict Printer Jobs.
                This setting should also be set to "OFF"
