    Canon IR 3230 - E110-0002 Error

This is our fuser test machine.

In the middle of testing fusers, E110-0002 was displayed. Performed code reset and cycled power. Error was gone. Attempted to copy. Error was displayed again. Tried prior tested fuser. Same result.

Error code is for laser scanner timing issue. Ordered new laser scanner. Installed it. Performed adjustment and entered values from scanner label. Attempted to copy. Same error code.

Ordered DC controller. Unable to print so I had to manual write down existing data for adjustments. Installed DC controller. Entered adjustments. Error code displayed again.

I also noticed a slower than normal start up time.

So is there something I'm overlooking? What could be causing this problem? Could any of it be related to fusers since that's what we were doing at the time?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Once it worked normal but the problem returned after attempting to copy, it may be a signal of a problem with revolution. This is my reason, it cycled normally because the warming up does not involve the laser; but copying does. It is more of problem with the scanner motor and/or anything that works with it. Remove and observe carefully. it might be a problem with some of the gears of the motor. I recommend you swap with another copier's motor to be sure; so you don't incur a cost before.

Check the ground clip that contacts the metal reg roller just below the drum unit. Reform it and put some conductive grease between it and the roller. I have seen this clip cause laser errors, wavy lines from laser... Also make sure shutter is not stuck or not opening...when you open right door shutter blocks laser path...if actuator on door is broken, etc when you close the door the shutter won't open. Make sure front door interlock and right door interlocks are okay. Lastly clean the laser connector assembly(intermediate plug at rear). I have seen toner seep into them and cause shorts.

Thanks for the prompt response. I noticed when error comes up paper reaches registration area, buckles there, and then the error appears. We thought at first the fuser might not be rotating. We ruled that out, plus the paper never reaches the fuser. We did check the registration contacts on the right side. They make contact with the roller.

We will try a rotation test on the motors to make sure all rotate (scanner, fuser, main, and etc...).
We will check the door linkages back to scanner shutter.

I will post what I learn. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am listening.

make sure you clean those contacts and roller where the ground makes contact, this is a very common problem

Ok this is what we found out. There is a wire that goes from a switch and is broken off. See photos attached. Is this part of an assembly or is this a separate part? Can this be causing the error. I couldn't find it in the part diagrams (my eyes aren't what they used to be), nor could I find where the broken end goes.

              Re: Canon IR 3230 - E110-0002 Error

You have to click on the photos to see the piano wire type cable that broke. It runs from the right door interlock switch to the laser shutter (which coincidently doesn't show up in the service manual, but I did finally find it in the parts manual). The cable doesn't seem to have a part number, so I took the switch, cable, and shutter from a damaged 3225 and installed it in this one. No more error and it works good. Thanks canuck for leading me in the right direction. I'm more accustomed to looking at printers than copiers, so I would have never thought of looking for a shutter on the bottom of a laser scanner.

When we test fusers, we test about 100 a month on average. It's a lot of opening and closing the door. The cable rubs on a plastic guide back and forth when the door opens and closes. It wore a spot in the cable and eventually broke.

              Thanks again for your help.
