    Remove toner Cartridge (Magenta)

    Hello all,

Looking for a little help on this one....

I have a C5030 with a peculiar problem where as I cannot change the magenta toner bottle (or any toner I assume).

The machine has called for magenta toner to be replaced and I have selected the toner replacement icon in the bottom right corner of the screen to initiate the toner replacement procedure. The machine prompts me to open the toner cover as normal but when I do, the screen does not change to the second screen that displays the 'remove toner' button. I cannot get past this screen :

Opening the cover does not produce the 'close toner cover' message either. I have replaced the toner door open/close sensor but the same problem persists. I enabled the manual toner replacement option in service mode to forcibly change the toner, but the same cycle persists.

Any ideas out there? Firmware is at version 79.04

    Thanks,

Enter Service Mode and navigate to:

    COPIER > OPTION > DSPLY-SW > Level 2 >< T-CRG-SW> Set to "1"

    Power Cycle the imageRUNNER

Now enter Settings / Registration > Adjustment / Maintenance > Maintenance >< Replace Specified Toner >

Follow the on-screen instructions and open the main toner cover.
Select the [Replacement Needed] tab, and select [Replace. not needed] tab.
Now all the color toners will be displayed.
Select the color of the toner to open it's cover.
Now the [Remove Toner Cartridge] tab will be enabled. Select the Remove Toner Cartridge tab.
The message [The selected toner still can be used. Do you want to replace it] select YES.

    * The Toner Cover will now open and the toner cartridge can be removed. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the cartridge. *

Thanks Teckat for the detailed response, I appreciate your efforts, but maybe I didn't explain my predicament correctly......

Even with the option to forcibly change toner bottles turned on in service mode as you suggested, I cannot get past the point where the copier asks the user to open the outer toner door.

Upon further investigation using he copiers I/O mode I have noticed that the outer toner door sensor does not change state when it is opened and closed, therefore it (the copier) is always thinking that the door has never been opened and therefore won't advance to the next stage of displaying the screen that allows you to press the 'remove toner' button.

I have since mechanically removed the magenta toner using the toner ejection ratchet in the back of the machine and installed a new magenta toner thinking this would get me through until I find a solid fix for this issue, but unfortunately the machine still is asking me to change the magenta toner. I believe this is because it has never seen the outer toner door sensor change state and it still thinks the toner hasn't been changed.

The sensor for the outer toner door leads back to the d-con, so I also performed a d-con clear to see if this would resolve the issue. No dice. Still have the same problem.

I guess my next step will be to return with a new d-con to test with.

Thanks Teckat. Great info as always....

Excuse my ignorance but I hadn't looked at a schematic yet. Does the outer toner cover door sensor go to the drum driver PCB also? Or is it only the individual color doors that go back to the drum driver PCB?

I hastily assumed that those sensors went back to the D con. I sure would hate to go back with the wrong board to test with. I will also check wire ties as you have indicated hadn't crossed my mind yet.

I was able to manually load a new magenta toner into the machine using the ratchet on the rear of the machine. This will buy me a little bit more time until I get back to do further troubleshooting.

I'm wondering if someone has been doing some work back there and missed reconnecting a conn? Has the main drive assy been removed ? That whole board needs to be removed if u are pulling the Dr assy.

Tekcat: thanks for clearing that up and I will make sure I take the correct board

Canon33: you could be correct about a missing connector..... Some work was done there recently. I will double check drum driver PCB connectors

Thanks to all for the help. I will follow up with you in a couple of days. Return call is set for Wednesday.

That I won't! It's always the last step for me... Probably cause it's usually the most time intensive/P.I.T.A process to do...... But sometimes it solves some weird issues......Why the hell hasn't Canon adjusted the tension on those tie wrap guns? Seems like we have been fighting this issue for years

Hello All, Sorry for the late response to this thread.....

After all, it turned out to be a halfway plugged in connector on the Drum Driver PCB . I was checking each connector and one went "Click" since it wasn't seated correctly. I found out after the fact that another tech had been working in that area of the machine. Needless to say, once the connector was reseated, all is fine.

Thanks to everybody for all the great info on this one, it sure helped me out.
