    Adjusting Gradation please wait

    I have a Canon ImageRunner C5185. It has a very low page count and is in great condition. There was a service tech out here several months ago and he said the machine is in great shape. The reason I had to call him was the finisher had lost its mind and when I asked it to staple it would send copies every which way and send a staple into the mess. All is fixed.

    Now if I print or copy anything over 100 pages it stops every so often and says it is Adjusting Gradation please wait. This is driving me crazy as it takes forever to get anything done.

    Can anyone please help me to understand how I can fix this? I can't imagine using this machine in a copy shop as it would take days to do large quantities (anything over 100).

    Any help greatly appreciated.

      Re: Adjusting Gradation please wait

      Image Stabilization on iR5180 Series.

      How to change execution intervals of image stabilization control: Message "Adjusting gradation. Please wait a moment." is displayed.

      ;-)
      1. Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY > set [ADJ-LVL] to '1'.

      2. The default value of the following service mode is '100':
      [Service mode (Level 2) > COPER > Option > BODY > INTPPR-1].
      When increasing the sets interval (number of sheets) for the image stabilization control to about '500' sheets, set the value of this mode to '500'.
      If this value is set to '1000', the control will not be performed during initial rotation, and the control during job is seldom performed.

      Note: Use this service mode depending on the severity of the symptom because changing this mode will increase the execution intervals of the control or stop the control, possibly causing the density variation.

      Reference: The service modes that can change the intervals of the image stabilization control are as follows:

      a. Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY > INTROT-1.
      This is used to set the execution interval (number of sheets) for image stabilization control (adjustment set 1) during initial/last rotation.
      Adjustable range: 50 to 1000 (value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear: 100)

      Note: Increasing the execution intervals of the control may adversely affect the density variation.

      b. Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY > INTROT-2.
      This is used to set the execution interval (number of sheets) for image stabilization control (adjustment set 2) during initial/last rotation.
      Adjustable range: 50 to 1000. (Value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear: 500)

      Note: Increasing the execution interval of the control may aggravate variation of density.

      c. Service mode (Level 2) > COPER > Option > BODY > INTPPR-1.
      This is used to set interval (number of sheets) for performing image stabilization control (adjustment set 1) between sheets.
      Adjustable range: 50 to 100. (Value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear: 100)

      d. Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY > INTROT-T.
      This is used to set the execution interval (time) for image stabilization control during standby.
      Adjustable range: 1 to 10 hours. (Value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear: 2)

      Note: To turn the image stabilization control during standby ON/OFF, select [Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY > AUTO-DH].
      - 0: automatic start OFF (prohibit operation)
      - 1: automatic start ON (permit operation: value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear)

      Note: If this mode is set to "0" (OFF), the user will have to monitor the output image to determine when to perform the following item in the user mode: [Adjustment/cleaning > automatic gradation compensation (full compensation)].
      Other image stabilization control processes are performed independently of this setting.

      e. Service mode > COPIER > Option > BODY >ADJ-LVL.
      This is used to set execution mode for image stabilization control performed after preset number of sheets.
      Adjustable range: 0 to 2. (value at time of factory shipment/after RAM clear: 0)
      - 0: Normal mode (value at time of factory shipment/value after RAM clear)
      Adjustment set 1: Discharge current volume control, single-cycle ATVC control, ATR control, image position compensation
      Adjustment set 2: Discharge current volume control, single-cycle ATVC control, ATR control, SALT-Dmax control, image position compensation
      - 1: Compression mode 1
      Adjustment set 1: Discharge current volume control, single-cycle ATVC control, ATR control, image position compensation
      Adjustment set 2: Discharge current volume control, single-cycle ATVC control, ATR control, image position compensation

      Note: This mode will increase the density fluctuation compared to Normal mode.
      - 2: Compression mode 2
      Adjustment set 1: Nothing
      Adjustment set 2: Nothing

      Note: If this mode is set, all the image stabilization controls will not be performed. Therefore, such controls have to be performed manually by making the following selections in sequence in the user mode: [Adjustment/cleaning > automatic gradation compensation (full compensation)].

        Re: Adjusting Gradation please wait

        I feel safe indeed.

        Thank you for your help as I have to print about 3000 copies and can't wait for this thing to self adjust all the time.

        Also if you happen to see this before you go, when I send a job from my computer and it starts printing is there any way I can find how many prints left?

        I have pushed the printer button several times but it does not show me a countdown number.

        Thanks again

              To monitor the remaining time and copies left in a job turn on the job duration display, its in additional functions>common settings>job duration display turn other on for print jobs and copy and mailbox if you wish to see those as well.

              Also be aware that when you change the gradation settings you may notice a drop off in quality and consistency.

                I use Bayshore Office Equipment. Why do you ask?

                It seems to be working pretty well now.
                I logged into the RUI and it does show page count but not in real time. I have to refresh but if that is the best I can get it is certainly better than not knowing.

                A quick question. As I understand the C5185 is a 51 page per minute machine. When I send a page with two sides to the printer as I timed it the other day based on the counter, when the counter turns to the next number I started the timer and read the counter after 1 minute, I get about 10 pages per minute.
                Now I understand it is doing 2 sides but should there be that much of a drop in speed? It would seem faster if I printed one side and then put it back through for the second side. If it truly does 51 pages per minute it would seem much faster to print front then back instead of letting it automatically do it.
                Is there something I am missing?

                Thanks again for all your help.

                  Up to 51 / CPM /B & W &COLOR = Called COPY SPEED/ (walk up) u notice that it does not say PRINT SPEED /& says Up To

                  CPM fed from the stack bypass is another exception.

                  U place one sheet of letter paper on glass> select 51 copies on control panel>take out a stopwatch> press start button on printer & watch at the same time= 51CPM

                  12" x 18"=24 CPM
                  11" x 17"=26 CPM
                  LGL=26 CPM
                  LTR=51 CPM
                  LTRR=26 CPM
                  STMTR=26 CPM
                  EXEC=26 CPM

                  The Single Pass Duplex Scanner, which is standard on Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series models,(100 sheet paper capacity) scans both sides of documents simultaneously to increase scanning productivity for 2- sided originals.
                  Feeder will scan at up to 100ipm (LTR) for 2-sided originals.

                    So I did a test as you suggested and you are spot on. I used a stop watch and noted the counter for 1 minute and it came out exactly 51 pages per minute. So what does all this tell me. If I want to get the fastest possible printing I should print one side then return the copies to the drawer and print the other side. I printed 366 copies and at 51 CPM it took about 8 minutes maybe a little less compared to over an hour and a half to duplex print 500 copies.

                    Again thank you for your help.
