Help with converting DR-313K Black drum to color

I've done these before, but it's been a while. I just did one, but I'm getting a washed out image on one side of the half tone pattern, so I must have done something wrong.
I moved the blue front piece and the 2 black pieces on the drum shaft from the color drum over to the black drum. Also removed the extra black piece from the side of the drum unit.
I thought there used to be a link to step by step instructions on this site, but I can't find it now.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    The procedure seems correct...
The blue cover, the black one and the two stops that hold the drum must be changed, the extra piece on the lower part must be removed and then the colored drum chip must be inserted.

You will get a poor print image if you don't also fit a new colour chip. The device will set the wrong charges / laser power as it thinks it still has a old drum to compensate.

Forgot to mention that, but yes, I did change the chip to the color chip.I went back and changed out the rear section of the drum unit since it looked different, but still no luck. Has someone converted one recently? Could KM be doing something different to their drums to keep people from converting them?

If it makes you feel any better. I have had trouble with those as well. It seems to have something to do with the 2 black pieces. When I take off the front black piece, I try to remove it all as one unit. There is a little bit of play if you remove the 3 black pieces individually and I think it affects the spacing.. Good luck

Never remove 3rd black spacer(one with 2 different type of screw) it affects drum to mag roller gap(distance) and you will have very hard time adjusting it. Just 2 on the drum shaft.

Thank you tsbservice, you nailed it. As soon as you mentioned not removing those 2 screws, I knew that's what I had done.
Apparently there's an old and new style DR-313 color drum unit style. I thought it was weird that there were 5 screws on the front face of the color drum unit when I took it apart, but it had been a few years since I did one, so I took them all loose.
We had an old C368 sitting in our warehouse which I knew would have older color drums in it, so I removed the blue front cover from one of the color drums and sure enough, they are different. The older color drums only had 3 screws on the front black portion of the drum unit and the newer style has 5 screws (the 2 extra screws are the ones you said not to loosen.)
I took the front black cover with 3 screws off of the old drum unit and put it on the one I'm having trouble with and it fixed the problem.
I took a picture of the 2 drum units side by side and you can clearly see the 2 extra non shouldered screws on the drum unit on the right side.

Thanks for your findings & detailed description of the old & new style drums.

When replacing the chip, make sure it sits perfectly in the same position as the black chip before. Otherwise the printer won't adjust the drum accordingly and reset the counter.
