Universal printer driver (UPD) vs UPDv4

with the new series of machines that have been released, KM has got rid of spesific drivers for the new machines. so with the c250i it had c250i/c300i/c360i spesific drivers, but now its only upd and updv4.
does anyone know what diffrences there are between the universal pcl drivers for the 301i/ c251i

Yes. Type v4 drivers run in user space while the regular universal type 3 drivers run at the system level. The regular type 3 universal drivers support WAY more models than the type 4 version. I recommend using the type 3 one if you can.

However, that being said, at this time of writing the newest version of Windows 11 24h2 has a bug that will cause the type 3 version to hang and you MUST use the type 4 version on that version of Windows. This is an issue since it will leave people with old copiers on Windows 11 24h2 without a working driver potentially (i have not had a chance to test this yet). Also anyone who updates a computer from Windows 10 or Windows 11 23h2 to Windows 11 24h2 is going to get a surprise when they try to print.

In other words, helpdesk support last week....was "fun"....

I have now had several customers whose PDF printing froze. I thought the problem was with Adobe Reader. For most of them I solved the problem by reinstalling Adobe and for some I had to switch to Foxit Reader. But thank you very much for the information about the incompatibility and the Windows update.

There is a way to escape. I noticed there was a process (at this point the name escapes me) that runs and uses a decent chunk of CPU time that has something to do with loading the Konica driver. If you kill that process with task manager it unfreezes the application (Adobe reader, Word, whatever) but it doesn't print. At least you can get to a point where you can save the open document.

do you recall free vista upgrade weekend? when everyone upgraded to vista on friday without checking the driver compatibility first.
a hundred+ calls on the next monday and for the next month when they couldnt print.

its sad KM seemed to give up tailoring drivers to the newest OS's.

sorry you are going through this.

it wouldnt happen to be "print filter pipeline host" would it?
KM did a release on kiku about it on "11-05-2024" (not sure if this is UK or US date formatting)

              Yes I think it's related.

Oh yeah for sure. At the time I was working at an MSP. I can't recall how many people we had to tell to "stay on XP". It was all kinds of peripherals that broke because it seemed like no manufacturer had published a driver for their devices yet. Heck the machines we managed directly, we completely skipped Vista and went right to Windows 7 SP1.

                Thanks man.

Two things. You can find driver on customer side of km pcl etc even for 1 series. Also there is special firmware for the Adobe not printing and freezing
