did the machine stop and show the "replace toner NOW" message?
if not the users need to change their habit to replace only when it asks for it, not when i just says soon.
i usually remove the toner and make enough halftome test pages at 255 until it stops and asks for toner.
after putting bottle back in the gauge would go back to full.
i know the i series has toner dipsw, never saw 8 series listed.We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
The medication helps though... -

38. Even if the remaining amount of toner is sufficient, machine detects toner near empty. [ERBJKS1500858021,IQBF__1500859199]
If toner near empty is misdetected, clear the toner information and manually initialize by following procedure.
Procedure
1. Call the Service Mode to the screen.
2. Call the Enhanced Security to the screen.
3. Touch [Engine FW DipSW]. (Stop -> 0 (Zero) -> C (Clear) )
4. The switch corresponding to the colors to be reset is highlighted (ON state) in reverse video.

34:K
5. Touch [END].
6. Turn OFF and ON the main power switch.Comment

Like Synthohol posted this usually happens when toner is put in before machine stops and message to "replace toner". I tell my customers to disregard the gauge in upper right corner of display and next time wait for machine to stop before inserting new toner. Those gauges in upper right corner are not that accurate anyway and have nothing to do with stopping machine because toner low, etc. The toner is monitored internally other ways.Comment
