Anyone know more about this? What does this mean for dealerships?

I think nothing dramatic in short term. After fiasco with toner shortage/outage KM is shaken and forced to release a "new" 1i models. The future will tell but they digged themselves into a big hole during COVID times.

It seems from the article that Ricoh and Toshiba are merging as well.

This is probably the way of things now since the photocopier market is stagnant but other technologies are emerging that require investment.

Merging and reducing production/spare part costs is one way of increasing investment elsewhere.

It’s worth saying that these companies are looking to merge their production/research facilities, not the companies themselves.

Toshiba and Ricoh are not merging. They are pooling their manufacturing resources only.

Fuji and Konica Minolta are looking at how they can share resources to reduce their costs.

It will be years before any of these OEMs release new products as a result of their joint ventures.

Konica Minolta has certainly been financially performing poorly the last few years but these Japanese giants have a long way to go before they are in any real danger of shuttering their business.

Selling fear based upon half truths is a good tool for competitve sales reps to try to flip an account.

Please re read my post, particularly the last paragraph where I plainly state the companies are not merging.

          Thanks

Agree that Kon/Min has lost a lot of confidence with end users & dealers. Starting with the toner & machine shortage, then their new footprint "i" series which have a lot of issues.

I have been dealing mostly with Kon/Min equipment for the last 25 years but may have to start looking into Canon.......

Because Canon is always ranked 1 or 2 in most copier segments. Also I get good feedback from a friend who is service mgr at large Canon dealer. He was also the serv mgr at a Kon/Min Pro-Tech dealership before being bought out by Canon so his comparison of the two OEM's holds weight. He likes the Canon's a lot.

But bottom line is all copiers are being built cheap now a days and all have some issues.

Having run a Canon dealership for 2 years, I can confirm they make a great product.
I can also confirm the cost of parts is very high; only line I've ever seen that a fuser REBUILD costs over a grand!

And fusers last? I'm aware Canon and Ricoh make a great products but nowadays who can afford drum goes past 300k and fuser past 600-700k without doubt. We can't.
