I have a Kyocera FS-3640MFP with a continual "adding toner" message, I removed the right cover and everything appears to be in place all the motors and gears seem to be turning. To rule out a maintenance kit, I took the developer unit and drum unit and swapped them into a 3540MFP and they work ( a little over-toned),however, no adding toner message. I took the FS-3540mfp drum and developing units and placed them into the FS-3640mfp and the continual "adding toner" message is on the LCD screen. The firmware I believe is current 0514 and no error massages. I did not see any tech bulletins. Any ideas?

Re: Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message
I brought it back to the shop and watched it for about 30 min stuck in that "adding toner" cycle. It basically fills the toner waste bottle while in the process. I'm thinking possibly main board issue. -
Re: Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message
Is the drum coated in toner ? That ususally indicates some type of high voltage arcing. I was going to suggest looking at U130, but it doesn't look like it has that maintenance item.Comment

Re: Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message
The drum looks good, I turn off the mfp, pull out the drum unit and it looks good, not covered in toner. The drum only has 24k on it. I tried a drum and developer refresh to no avail, No 130.Comment

My company has access to KDAconnect and can't find that bulletin under the FS-3640MFP. What does it pertain to?Comment

Re: Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message
Retracing all of my steps, I believe the issue started after performing U002 (resetting factory default data). I have used this mode on other models and have not had any issues. I'm wondering if it lost rom data from the factory and has no reference point for toner?Comment

Re: Kyocera FS-3640MFP continual adding toner message
It will do the toner initial adding if you performed U002. You will have to wait for it to finish. There is one more thing to be checked in this case. That's the developer drive gear which breaks every now and then:
