Kyocera 2552ci Jam J4701 When Duplexing

I have a 2552ci that jams when duplexing. It gives a J4701. When the machine jams, the paper is partway into the fuser after doing the first side. Doing one sided copy/prints is no problem.

What I have done so far. I updated the firmware. I checked the condition of the actuators in the exit unit and the fuser.

I swapped the exit sensor with the feedback sensor. The machine did 32 duplex prints/copies then jammed with a J4701. After clearing the jam the machine would J4701 with every duplex print/copy thereafter.

I called Kyocera support. The tech had me check the sensors and switches with U031. Was told there is a high probably the problem is coming for the Feed Image PWB. For future reference, the Feed Image PWB for the 25/3252ci is different from the Feed Image PWB for the 25/3253ci. The Feed Image PWB from the 3552ci thru 6052ci is different from the 3553ci thru 6053ci series and different from the smaller series as well. I ordered a Feed Image PWB.

When I went back I took a new Feed Image PWB and a Exit Section. I discovered the 2553ci Exit Section is the same as 2553ci Exit Section. The Exit Sections for the 3552ci thru 6052ci are the same for the 3553ci thru 6053ci series but different than the smaller series.

At the machine I installed the new Feed Image PWB and updated the firmware. The machine did duplex a few then jammed with a J4701. I took off the new Feed Image PWB and put the old one back on. I then replaced the Exit Section and tried duplexing. It duplexed a few then jammed with a J4701. I then put the new Feed image PWB and got J4701 right away. I also checked for any bent pin on all connectors with the Exit Section and the Feed Image PWB.

I called Kyocera support and explained what I have done so far. I was asked if the right side cover was bowed out. I checked and noticed the front side of the right side cover stuck out 4mm as compared to the back side that was flush. It was suggested I try a right side cover. I replaced all the original parts before I left.

I may go over there with a right side cover. I found that the right side cover is the same for the 2552ci thru 6052ci and the 2553ci thru 6053ci. I may also take fuser unit as well. However, I think that the problem being the right side cover a bit fantastic. Could be, but I don't know.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be most welcomed. Thanks in advance.

I have seen the right side cover cause maddening issues because it was bowed. I can not recall if J4701 was one of them. It seems like a good idea to replace it since it is bowed though.

I have attached a picture of that side cover. You're telling me just this little bit of bowing on the front side not the back side can cause the problem I'm having?

It is entirely possible. The inside of that door/cover is part of the paper path. I have tested the theory before simply by holding the door shut all the way while running it.

Only time I've seen that jam code I exchanged the entire exit unit so if that didn't work for you...
              1) Have you checked both drive gears on the fuser working together? Kyo updated that fuser enough times
              2) Had the small silver plastic screws (5 front, 5 rear) on the conveying door back themselves out. Even ending up on the floor in the end. Swapping the door would fix it or any bowing issue.
The xx52ci been out for a while so some 1-way gear gummed up or something. Happy hunting

initially I changed front pwb but did not solve the issue.
my collegue had a similar problem and solved also with changing both parts @ the same time.

                  Sorry for the late update.

Tried a different door, no change. Tried yet another Feed Image PWB, no change. We will bring the machine into the shop and I will try both the Feed Image PWB and right side door at the same time and see what happens.

                  Will report back.

taskalphaman, I certainly appreciate your help. However, you posted "i had the same topic long time ago, and was solvedchanged 2 parts @ the same time front pwb en engine."

I know what the engine pwb is. Please let me know what you are referring to as the front pwb. I have looked in the service and parts manuals and cannot find a front pwb.

Thank you again for your help.

Iris2 do not have front pwb, Iris2020 only.
You are talking about J4701/ nothing about J4702 or J4709.
Do you also get 4702 and 4709 or not?
If not, there is no problem with exit unit./ i would check paper feeding from drawer 1
If yet, check exit connector on front frame for bent pins.

I had a tech tell me that the gear on vertical feed pack was installed incorrectly after a waste toner back up. he replaced it correctly and it duplex jams went away... I haven't researched how that may affect duplex. My initial thought was a plug was installed incorrectly on the pack. he swears up and down it was the gear in the vertical feed pack though.

So the machine is in the shop and I redone all the things I did out in the field just to make sure. I also have inspected for bent pins on the right side door ans well as the feed units. I have even put in different feed units for another machine. No joy.

Any other suggestion would be welcomed at this point.

In U030 you can make the machine print and watch the sensors change states. Thats how we caught a sensor with a damaged wire harness, we saw it flash off and on.

I had a Ricoh with a bad switch back clutch. Single pages it duplexed fine. Soon as you did multi on a working machine, the machine would pause during switchback for a second and then start feeding. This machine didn't do the pause because of the bad clutch and threw the timing out.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
