M3655idn not genuine toner out of the box

I setup 4 of these machines and all 4 out of the box gave me this error that the toner was not genuine Kyocera toner. This was the toner that came with the machine. We replaced it with toner from our supplies and it worked.

Has anyone run into this problem?

    Thank You

We have also had this problem. We got 6 in and 4 of them had the same message. We also had a total of 10-15 toners come in from new 3655s with broken gear locks on the sides of the toners.

powering up the machine without the toner and then reinserting worked for 2 of them for us. But we had to also take 2 from inventory.

Believe it or not, a firmware update has solved this issue for us many times. Hope it will help with this one.

My supervisor found a fix, the teeth are off by 1. He forced the teeth 1 click, I believe clockwise. I'll find out the process he did.

Had one just the other day that I had to move the gears by a tooth right out of the box.

YEP!!!.... I set a new M3655idn/A (no fax) up this morning & right out of the box, "Not Genuine toner", played with it a little bit, then got, "toner empty", played with it again & it finally set up and worked great, the status report printed & instead of the toner scale at bottom of the page, it actually said "WARNING" we recommend the use of our own brand supplies, we will not be liable for any damage caused by third party supplies in this machine.

I delivered the machine to the customer this morning, and when showing them how to clear jams & replace toner, when I closed it back up... I got that damn message again. I explained to them that it is a starter toner & they might get this message again if they open the unit.. They were fine with it, BUT dammit... why is this happening on the set-up procedure only?

What happens when this machine needs to go in warranty?

Does Kyocera look at log and says user has used compatible toner and warranty is void?

I wouldn't think so, you can tell by the status page that this issue was on setup only, make sure to keep a file copy of the status sheet if you think it will be an issue.
Have a great day all !!

I think the Non OEM Toner message does not get saved into the machines memory until the ctg runs empty. So if you can get a new OEM or good chipped toner in the machine before the ctg runs out, the machine will never record that there was a Non OEM toner in it. (even if it was actually an OEM toner) Pretty sure that's the way it works.

Does the starter toner cartridges for this model comes without the chip mounted?
Defects are simple, our mind is complicated

No the starter cartridges definitely have a chip in them.... Maybe the starters were made on a Monday or a Friday

Is this issue only happening with the M3655idn/A (no fax) model? I might be ordering a bunch of these soon and not sure if I really want to order a bunch of problems. Other than the doc feed hinges prone to breaking, these have been excellent machines - they are definitely due for a replacement model though. I've been replacing old M3655idn machines with new M3655idn machines. I don't think you can even order them right now because of the fax board chip shortage.
