[Misc] TA 308ci ip address "Not defined" issue

    Hi All,

Here is a strange one for you.

Customer phones in and says printer is offline and they cannot print.

Go to machine and print out the status page to check the ip address is correct and it says "Not Defined" in the ip section.

checked in the network settings of the machine and the ip address is there and is correct.

Normally this indicates a duff port or network lead as the machine cannot find a live network, so I checked the port on the wall with my laptop, all ok. tried another network cable still NG.

so now I think faulty main board on the machine, connected my laptop via a cross over cable and it still came up "not defined" set to dhcp still "not defined". so now really suspecting the main board as that where the network port is.

the customer has another of these machines so I took the main board out of the faulty machine and tried it in their other machine and it works fine and the board from thier other machine said "not defined" in the faulty machine, so now I am really confused.

Did a U906 and FW update, still the same.

    HELP!!!! :-)

Sounds like a fun problem. Maybe a good next move would be to move the problem machine to the working machines location and plug it in the network and see what happens.

Have you tried memory clear u21 yet? Had a couple series that had these issues. If that doesnt work I would try main board.

Make sure everything it typed in correctly. It will come up as undefined if the IP, Subnet or gateway aren't in the correct subnet.
You can always change it to DHCP to troubleshoot.
        Hope that helps !

You might try using a hostname port, just to try something different. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

My money would be on this. I've seen this multiple times. In a couple of cases the connection cleared with a new drop. Old machine would connect fine : new machine wouldn't connect even with a static address. Had to set the network speed to get a connection.

Another network oddity: we had a school get new machines. Old machines were working fine. No problems. The new machines come in and they start getting PCL XL errors. These machines had the network cable going into and out of the surge protectors. When the surge protectors were removed, no more PCL XL errors. Put the protectors back in and the errors came back.
