    DF-7100 inner tray full

We have a 5003 with a DF-7100 inner finisher saying "inner tray full" even when there is no paper present. Problem is intermittent. We have tried replacing the exit unit. I think it is something to do with the inner finisher because I've only heard about this problem when there is a DF-7100.

There are C8800 codes in the device logs so maybe there is a problem with the connection between the finisher and copier. The 2018 bulletin about the newer style slide rail is supposed to address the C8800 codes but it doesn't mention the inner tray full messages. Usually we just replace these inner finishers when they start acting weird but we don't have one.

Have you tried shimming the connector on the finisher? Usually I put 2 small washers between the connector and the mount plate.

I do the same really poor connector if the customer likes to slam it shut. I take the mounting screws out and slide the whole finisher in and out a few times to try to clean the connector of any oxidisation.

It's been a problem for years even the 54 series has the same issue. Why they don't just have a connector behind a plate is beyond me. Samsung had a similar issue with fuser units years ago and they came out with a similar connector but it had springs to keep it secure during any vibration.

+1 you have to put 2 washers between the connector and the mount plate of the finisher to improve the connection with copier.

Pretty common issue. Even the ones that we have add the bulletin parts to, don't last. So far, when we put washers in, they stay working. The "inner tray full" message is a result of when the C8800 codes come up, they're communication errors, and sometimes the machine then thinks there isn't a finisher in place. When you install a finisher, there's a detector flag and plastic guide that get removed. If that detector flag and guide isn't there, and neither is any other exit option, the machine would say the same thing. So the codes and message are caused by the same thing.

Hi guys, can someone explain where on the finisher you are putting the washers and how thick they are?

On the finisher, where the plug is mounted to the metal frame of the finisher (although it floats a little for a smooth connection), put the washers between the plug and the metal frame on the finisher. I just used normal width washers, one on each screw, and so far, they're fine.
