Kyocera M5526cdw and generic toner....(OK to throw empty beer bottles at me...)

I know the answer to this but I'm going to ask anyway. The OEM toner for this machine is so expensive and it's hard to be competitive in a some per-copy situations. We've tried a few generic toners and had problems. Has anyone had any success with generics with this model? Can someone recommend a different brand of small color mfp with decent supply prices that we might sell instead of this model Kyocera? Kyocera is our main line but I really don't like putting this machine out.

    Thanks, Jim

This is definitely not a model you would ever consider putting on any kind of service programme. The minimum for us would be a TA-352 /MA3500
If someone wants one, it would be 100% do and charge.

If I had any empties handy, you should be ducking.

The are so many negatives here it's hard to know where to start:
      *tabletop Kyocera color quality
*this model's reputation for poor drum and transfer cleaning
*generic toner's reputation for poor drum and transfer cleaning

It's hard to see how this can go well for you.

If you don't want to lose money on the service contract, forget tabletop color altogether. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        Steer clear budd...
This is one of the most expensive running and problematic ecosys models kyo has so lovingly designed.

I've got quite a bit of them out in the field and we've been forced to use non genuine toners as OEMs are just way to expensive and almost non existent on my side of the world.
I've got endless problems with generic toners not being recognised due to chip issues etc etc you name it, I've got it.

All of my units suffer from the ITB Cleaner assembly failure from the get go whilst using OEM toners.
More than half of them has been affected by the toner solenoid or toner drive gears issue. K drum failures are always fun on a Friday afternoon.

Running non genuines aren't making things any easier but what can we do..? It's so bad I've got these devices on set service intervals just so we can keep the ITB cleaning assemblies clean so it doesn't completely demolish our in-field repairs.

Yeahhhhh this is the worst model that we have sold. Non-OEM toners caused nothing but problems for the customers who didn't get a service contract and used aftermarkets. The other issue, was I had to replace the CCD under the glass and to calibrate it cost us almost $100USD, and we may never use it again. ABSOLUTE RIP OFF. Then there are the cheap drums that get dash marks constantly, transfer belt rips, toners last less than 4k each, and they are expensive parts to replace.

We now sell Epson MFPs, which include the WF-C579R, which has been a pretty decent replacement. Ink of course is expensive, but the XL black goes for 30 or 40K. Minus the surprising color output being mediocre at best, they're great for desktop office printing.

If you have any of these in the field (we have two, ugh!), keep them updated. I'm so glad my boss has decided that these are a maybe brake even machine so we won't be getting anymore.

It has been decided when the service agreements run out, they will go to pre-call service.

I hear that my boss may be looking at some Brother options.

As a rule, I don't offer an all inclusive contract for desktop MFP's. I have a few that cover labor only. Most of these machines are too cheaply made to turn a profit, in my experience.

Both are very valid approaches to service on these devices. They will never make yield on consumables. The Brother devices, though parts are expensive, do make yield. =^..^=

I have a ton of these as well. When the waste gets plugged. I clean it out, vacuum the black drum waste. Then drill a hole through the inside of the waste gear through the auger and put a chunk of a paper clip in there as a pin. It will get me through until the next time it plugs up. Then the waste recovery is shot and have to replace everything.
