    FS-1300D stuck at "Self test"

Does anyone know if there is a special procedure for forcing this machine to load firmware from a CF card? We have a machine here that was being updated using one of the utilities (KMnet Viewer, I think) and something apparently happened during the firmware loading process. Now when you turn on the machine it just says "Self test", some motors run for a few seconds and that's it. It does the same thing when a CF card with firmware is present as well. Any ideas? I realize that a new main board would probably solve this issue, but I can't see spending the money on a main board when it might even be cheaper to just replace the whole printer. Thanks guys...

Come one, Blackcat. I pretty sure you have some ideas, huh?

      I'm thinking...

That is my fear about updating firmware remotely. Some goof can't get his print to come out and sees the lights flashing in a unique pattern, so he flips off the machine and corrupts the firmware download. I like the opportunity to stand in front of the machine, unplug the network cable, and protect my machine from interfering hands.

The download from CF is no different than any other Copystar/Kyocera. The card must be formatted on the printer (or another FS-1300). It will have the typical (5) formatting folders. Engine and System must be upgraded in two separate operations (placed in the root drive), preferably Engine first. If it won't start the firmware upload from CF at boot up you've only got one option left. The dreaded engine board.

      Does that help? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

First thing, thanks for the response. Are you sure about having to format the CF card in the printer for this particular model? The service manual doesn't mention having to do this at all. It does mention the fact that system and engine firmware has to be done separately, I knew about that part. I'm with you on the dangers of upgrading firmware remotely. I'd post an armed guard next to the machine if I could. I'll try formatting the card in another printer, but the problem is that I don't have another 1300D available right now. Do you have any suggestions for other printer models that may be close enough for this purpose?

The information I have was from my online training notes. Since I had so much trouble with the Harrier firmware at first, I pay close attention to that function. By all appearances the formatting resembles the folder arrangement of the CS-2560. I cannot guarantee that it's the same, or will even work, but you can try it.

I was very frustrated by the CS-2540/3040 firmware. The only way I could get it to work was to order a print system, install it onto a machine long enough to format (2) CF cards, then remove it.

Another option is to format the card on the CS-2560, delete all files and folders, then copy/paste the contents of my CF card. PM is you'd like to try that. =^..^=

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try formatting a card on some other machines and see if I have any luck. I'll let you know if I find anything that works. Thanks again.

its also possible that your flash card went bad...

it happened to me... and I had similar results on a km 4035... I would say buy a new flash card from an online source... something reasonably small and try doing your firmware again...

                flashing firmware

Yes, you do have to format the CF in a printer and I would also buy a new CF card first.
