Kyocera Taskalfa 500i Fax sends but doesnt receive

    Hi Guys,

A customer of mine has bought a couple of cheap Taskalfa 500i's.

I have been setting them up and they wanted to replace their existing fax with one of these machines. Yeah no worries, plugged it in to their exisiting working direct fax line....wouldnt get a dial tone...wtf? changed the phone line, now I can send out, but cant receive....tried the other machine...same deal...Its def plugged into the line socket..
Tried calling it from my cell, I can hear the ringing in my cell but the fax just sits there doing nothing...mocking me....what am I missing?

Make sure its original kyocera fax lead and plugged in to correct slot (line) also do a fax initialization. If i remember correctly SM 600 and 601, set for your country when you doing the initialization.

      There isn't a model 500i. You might have a 5050, 500ci, a 550C, a 5500i, a 5501i, a 5550ci, or a 5551ci

Regardless what the model is, most of the time the problem has nothing to do with the fax. Try this:

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You could try entering U660 -> Exchange and switch from PSTN (default) to PBX and than give it a go.

I'm wondering if these machines were purchased used and if the original owners had configured them to receive the faxes on their computer and maybe you just need to
reconfigure them to receive the faxes and print to the machines.
It would be nice if you answered some of the previous question asked here too.
Like what the real model of the machines are?
and if anything tried has worked yet.

Sound like a line attenuation problem. The fax is deft in other words. Change the fax attenutation settings in service mode.
Is the fax set up for distinctive rings/dual line mode?

Is the fax line plugged into a broadband filter? Is the filter working ok.
Is the fax setup as store and email forward. It may need an email address.

              Hi guys,

Thanks for all of the responses! Its very much appreciated.

I did have the model number slightly wrong, Its the 500ci machine. These machines were purchased very cheap at auction (like so many at the moment here in Australia) and so the history of the machines is unknown. I think this also make diagnosis a bit more of a head game, because your not quite sure of why they were being sold cheap!

I haven't been able to get back to the machines so far, as the customer is now trying to decide if they want to get the fax option going or not.

Is there a difference between a kyocera fax lead and any other fax lead......one would think not, but when I swapped leads around i did get different issues arising?

If I do get back onsite will be trying all of these options and Ill let you know what happens, Thanks again guys it's nice to have people to bounce ideas around with.

              Cheers,

              Brad

before you do anything else go into service mode 671 and do a fax dimm clear.then do a fax dimm recovery.it can cure a lot of problems.

Have you thought to ask the customer if they have to dial something like a 8 pause or a 9 pause to get an outside line?

                  Keep it simple
