Printer do not recognizes PDF Files on a USB Stick

Hi all

I got a strange case here. A User made a ticket complaining about the fact that a MPC2551 is not seeing PDF Files that are stored on a USB Flash Drive. He has also JPG Files on the same Flash Drive and those are seen by the Printer.

I told him to try a different Flash Drive but the same thing happens. So i checked what kind of PDF Files those are. I created one myself trough Scan to folder and moved that one to the Flash Drive. Also that one is not recognized by the Printer.

Does someone has any Idea why this is happening.

1. Does the machine have the memory device option installed? SB Attachment Option USB2.0/SD Slot Type G 415672 D556-16
2. If the customer wants to print PDF files from the USB/SD card slot, the PDF Direct option or Postscript 3 option must be installed. The PDF Direct option is supplied with the USB/SD card slot option.

Hi there

If i understand you right is not enough to have a USB Slot?

Can you tell me where i can check if he has a PDF Direct option installed? About Postscript i don`t know i need to check with the client. he has only a USB Slot on the side of the Sceen. Do i assume right that then the PDF Direct Option should be installed?

Check the diagnostic report, SP 5990-005, to see if the PDF direct is present. Check the setting of Printer SP 1110-001, it should be 1 to enable printing from memory device. Scanner SP 1013-001 needs to be 1 to enable scan to memory device.

PDF Direct should have been on a SD Card that came with the USB/SD Slot option kit. Normally if there is a SD card already in slot 1, SP 5873-001 can be used to merge the two cards. Due to copy right, the options on the other card (HDD Encryption unit and Data Overwrite Security Unit) need to be moved to the PDF Direct card or the PS2 card. See the service manual for details.

I could solve the Problem. PDF Direct was not present. I changed it in the SP mode and now anything is working fine. Thanks allot for the help.

I have the same problem. I bought and installed the USB/SD and I can print jpeg from USB memory but I can't print pdf. I already new about the Ricoh SD to be instaled. Can I just prepare a standard SD with the right files on it?
