Ricoh MP 171 SPF Firmwarefiles and how to upgrade the Firmware?

Hi Experts,

i owned a Ricoh MP 171 SPF MF Printer some years ago. Now, I have trouble with the Scan2Folder Function on current Windows Releases like Windows 2012 R2, Windows 10.
I assume, that the Printer don't support the SMB3 Protocol.

Please let me know, how can I obtain the current releases (last available Version of Firmware) for my printer. Is there any Ricoh Reseller on this forum?
I get an older version of Firmwarefiles. But how can I load this files into the printer. Is there any howto available?

Today i have four *A.fwu, *B.fwu,*C.fwu,*F.fwu Files. Is there any SD Card Namings, Folder Namings pay for?

Hello...

You need to upgrade the NCS firmware to version 9.06a, required firmware file is: D0675526E_LRC0451.fwu, folder naming on SD card should be: \romdata\D067\D0675526E_LRC0451.fwu

Prior to install, disconnect network connections & Fax lines. Refer to the Firmware Update Procedure in the Service Manual

The following SMB-based GW functions will work with Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012 with this firmware.


- Scan to SMB
- Fax Folder Transmission
- Fax Forwarding

I've got the Firmwareupdate with the Files I got today from Ricoh.

All works perfectly. But as I want to upgrade the Scanner, I got the Error E44 ....

With SD-Card:
Download Error
Scanner
Cad No.: 1/1. E44

Without SD-Card
Reboot after card insert.
STLC4a_scn
Card No.: 1/1 E32

What can I do? :-(

I try to stay with a 1GB or 512MB SD cards. All early models using SD cards for upgrade would not take anything larger than 2GB and would still error on a large portion of 2GB cards. Reformatting would not help as it had to do with the actual card capacity, not all are the same. If you cannot find a 1GB SD card, you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to create a 1GB partition on a larger card.

If the machine is working, and you can get the remote version of the firmware (the .rfu version), you can update using the WIM.

You can also FTP the .rfu file to the machine. It will work equally as well.

FWIW, I've been told to update System, then Network, then Engine, then anything else after that.

I know that is documented somewhere, I think it was in the firmware packaging tool for Streamline.

Cause: Controller program error
Necessary Action: - Store the correct data in the SD card. - Replace the controller board.

You need to reinstall the program.
If the firmware update program is interrupted (for example, by a power failure), keep the SD card inserted and turn the mains switch off and on. The firmware update program restarts. If you do not do so, the message "Reboot after Card insert" is displayed when you turn the main switch on.

Try this:

Remove firmware card
Power on machine
Wait for error to appear
Press 1,4,3, Clear/stop (x3)
Reboot machine
Call a tech

you know I have trouble to install the Printer and Scanner Firmware Upgrades.

Now I hat got the *.rfu Files for these Printer. I installed it by using the Webinterface.

After automatic Reboot, I get the Error Message "Warten aut ROM-Update Daten .... IP Adresse: 192.168.1.250" ("Waiting for ROM-Update Data ...")

It's always a Loop and I cant find a break. And the Other way is. How can I install the Upgrades ... Whats wrong?!

Have you an Idea?

I believe this is an old machine.

Install all the MFD firmware updates directly from SD/VM card via slot 1 of the controller.
If possible, try to use a smaller 512MB SD card formatted to FAT32.
Do not use a card bigger than 1GB.

I post a previous link to the "u.zip batch file". If you follow the previous link the batch file will automatically create the SD card an extract all firmware onto the SD card for you.

Once the VM-card is created insert into the slot of the MFD and turn on the power to the machine.
