Ricoh MPC5501 White spots in solid area

I ran out of time Friday when customer called but was able to print out a solid test pattern. He has another 5501 so with the time I had I did a quick swap of the PCU(K) and ITB with no change. Color is not effected! Any idea's before I return! (See attached photo) Thanks for all your help!

On older machines, that was an indication that the charge roller was done and needed to be replaced. But I'm not sure about something that new.

Looks a bit like the 'firefly effect' with really bad developer in the black. You say you swapped the black pcu? The whole thing inc the dev unit or just the pcu?

Pattern is very similar to the one I had on a Pro 8110 from a bad transfer roller in the ITB. Simce you said that you swapped the ITB I'll go with the PTR. Either that or you have two ITB units with bad black transfer rollers.

I'd agree with other posts, its more than likely the transfer roller. If you changed the black PCU and it was still the same, then that tends to eliminate the charge roller.

Follow up! The spring behind the ITB for the "K" transfer was barely hanging on! Replaced spring out of a junker and all is well! Have no idea how the spring got that way unless a tech was replacing a toner pump and accidentally snagged it. Thanks for everyone's help!
