    Ricoh MPC3003 - Holding Prints?

I've got a Ricoh MPC3003 that is holding prints by default.
This becomes quite annoying when people have to walk over to the machine and manually tell it to print each job.
I've been looking for hours and can't seem to find anything that would make this happen permenantly.
Is there an option in the web admin or on the machine that causes this?

    Two main causes for this:

In the printer driver go to printer properties, advanced settings, printing defaults & check job type is set to "normal print"

Also if the user is trying to print a document on paper size or weight that is not loaded in the copier it wont print unless, as you say, the customer walks up & choses what paper try they want the device to print from.

That's the one I was watching for. In situations where you're enduser is too ... um, busy ... to select a paper tray, a paper size or a media type, I will go through the driver properties and set up fit-to-paper, and a specific tray, so something prints every time. If that is unsatisfactory then they can make driver selections for themselves. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I assume the MFD is set up for authentication and the PC software driver pass ID is set correct for each user ? Is the MFD set for "driver command" or device settings?

Is this a very busy office for large print jobs?
Is there a lot of PC files sent to the MFD and or waiting in the doc server print queue for normal print out? Is some one standing at the MFD and jumping the wait queue by pausing other peoples print jobs at the MFD?
Is the doc-server default set for "delete files after X days"?

I believe MFD was setup at one point, but was disabled.
Not really very busy there were 30 jobs in the queue after 3 days.
          Yes doc-server set to 10

Re: Ricoh MPC3003 - Holding Prints?

Are these jobs in the hold queue?

As previously mentioned it could be the print driver being defaulted to Hold/Lock print or it could be a setting on the device for all jobs to be set to mandatory Hold.

To check this follow these settings:
            • User Tools, (small button on control panel with a diamond and 123 written on it)
            • Printer Features,
            • Select the System Tab and navigate to the 2nd page selecting Next bottom right,
            • Restrict Direct Print jobs should be OFF

If you find this option is on Automatically Store Jobs it will do as your suggesting.

            Hope this helps.

One other thing that will cause a job not to print without user intervention is if the paper type in the paper tray settings of User Tools and in the print driver do not match exactly. There is a setting in User Tools where you can tell the printer function to use Driver/Program instead of machine setting. This will cause the machine to ignore the paper type and weight settings on the machine and assume that the user knows that the required paper is in the selected paper tray.

Good info, where in user tools is this setting exactly?

From computer control panel, printers properties check start printing immediately
Sounds to me that it is using network port.

user tools, printer features, system,.. poke around there and you will find it. The older Ricohs would only let you set driver command to the bypass. Now you can set all the trays that way if need be. Just a FYI, the old units came in with the bypass defaulted driver command but the new machines are defaulted machine setting. Its a great option if your dealing with Law firms and the like. Very few manufactures have this option and is a good selling point when your replacing a HP. Ricoh and HP are the only products that I know of that can do this. When sales upgrades a customer with another product and they are replacing a HP or Ricoh unit the dissatisfaction level goes up to a point where we have had to replace the machine with a Ricoh unit. The last thing a customer want to do when they send a print job, usually a envelope thru the bypass,is to now have to configure the machine to mach the size.
