Ricoh C4503 won't print in color

    Good Afternoon -

I recently (finally) had my work computer upgraded from a Win7 to Win10 machine. Unfortunately, somehow this caused me to lose the ability to print in color on our Ricoh C4503. I've set a profile for color, poked at every setting I can find in the properties, even gone through and compared the setup on the old PC to this one, all to no avail. I can print in B&W just fine, but when I try to send anything set to print in color, it blips briefly in the printer queue before disappearing. The printer doesn't react at all (no 'waking up' noises etc).

We do have a code to input to allow color print/copies and I suspect either that is the culprit, or that the printer doesn't recognize my new PC as having the same permissions as the old; but I've yet to figure out how to correct either issue. I don't often need to print in color, but when I do it sure is a pain to have to hook the Win7 machine up just to do so. Any suggestions definitely welcomed!

User code is missing in driver. Install correct driver and you can program your code under printer properties. Most likely have the generic rubbish Ricoh Class Driver installed and not sure if it has option for user code yet

Sounds like you don't really NEED the user codes either, so it's a much easier solution to simply disable it on the machine side, rather than to go back and forth here trying to provide steps to sort it out in your printer driver.

Well hold your hats and hallelujah. Our setup is a little different, but I got there, I tried it, and it worked! Now the Windows 7 machine can be put out to pasture at last..

I am guessing you had usercodes in the machine to restrict/limit the amount of color prints to save expense. Doing what you have done just opened up the genie bottle and now everyone can print color at their leisure with no restrictions. This might not be what you want done.

That likely is true. But we have less than half a dozen people who print to this machine, I account for easily 85% of the traffic - and of course, I haven't told anyone its changed

Someone disabled the user codes at one of my customers a couple of years back. The 1st month the colour clicks increased slightly but they didn't think much of it. 2nd month they clocked 13k colour prints.

Was a perfect storm of codes being disabled, windows installing a WSD driver that was defaulted to colour after an update and unfortunately they had to print financial reports for year end which were printed in colour and not B&W...lots of unhappiness all round when the bill came.

If you're device is under a maintenance agreement and you're not the one personally responsible for the bill I honestly recommend you enable the user codes again. Accidents happen.

Time to research just how user codes work, then enable and administer them accordingly.

As others have mentioned, those unplanned color clicks can eat you alive.

Don’t forget, stupid little things like email signatures, web links, and jpg images can cause color clicks, though you may not notice color on the printed page. Even one single pixel of color triggers the color meter.

I once had a Canon customer who scanned B&W photos as jpgs, and placed them into an Word doc, which was otherwise all B&W text.

The file was then printed with “auto-select” in the color setting for the driver.

Hilarities ensued when billing time came around. Let’s just say it got ugg-lee.
