    File:NFA:nfa_main.c

I have a Lanier 5635 and I keep getting an SC990 code and an SC 861. Thes codes alternate in the SC log. The SC Log for 990 is as follows: Code:990 Total: 503915 date: 3/19/09 Line: 155 VAL: -2 File: NFA:nfa_main.c

I am thinking that some how the OS has become corrupt or some of the files have. I have the service manual for this unit, and have looked at how to update the NVRAM, but it makes absolutly no sense to me. Now I may not be a full fledged copy/printer tech, but I'm trying, tolearn these things. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.

This machine runs on NetBSD (Unix flavour). Maybe one on more files are not working OK. I recommend updating/reloading the firmware before ordering any (expensive) parts.

I know this may sound wierd, but I read the manual and it says something about an IC card. Ar they talking about a CF card? Thanks

They're talking about a 4 MB (PCMCIA) Card to update the firmware. You also need a program called Memory Card Explorer to write the firmware to the card.

Switch the machine off, insert the card, switch machine on, and you can upload the firmware.

SC861 is probably a failed harddrive.

If you disconnect the harddrive the machine should still boot up but it will be missing some functionality.
The machines O/S is not stored on the harddrive but it is required for certain functions to work as it's used for temporary files.

If that's the case try another harddrive.
And try formatting the HDD in the SP modes. Obviously back up any address books etc beforehand otherwise that'll be the last you see of them.

As far as I'm aware it needs to be 4mb - hard to come by if you don't have one already! If memory serves, it prompts you to update the firmware when you power the machine on with the card inserted, but it's been a while on this model.

Other than that, clear the print queue, unplug the machine from the wall for a couple of minutes, power it back up and try printing to it again.

                  As Eric1968 said.

4Mb PCMCIA Flash card (not sure if generic ones will work)
                  Ricoh Memory Card Explorer

I'm sure they still sell them but thats only 1/3 of the solution. after the card you need to buy or get a trial version of MCE for Ricoh in order to install the firmware on the card. Then of course you'll need the firmware.
