[Misc] Can print but cannot scan

Hi, i recently moved my Ricoh MP C2051 to a new location and had since been having difficulty scanning. I have no issue printing to it via wireless network but the start button will not turn green to allow scanning. The SMTP server also fails to connect despite keying in the correct server name. There is no error message from the machine, except when delivery option is set to on. Connection test on the POP3 / IMPA4 settings tab went through smoothly with the same server name. Have also checked for and eliminated spelling error possibility. Would appreciate any advice to resolve this. Thanks in advance!

Is the machine on static or DHCP? Could be the DNS info is missing. Ping the hostname of the Exchange server to try the IP in SMTP server. Does the SMTP server use authentication?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Delivery server has nothing to do with scan to email.

go in WIM via browser, autenticate with admin, select configuration tab, and click under ipv4 (last voice) "system registry" and check negotiation status error.

There are 1000's of ways to configure scan to email and just as many reasons that it may fail, and you've not provided nearly enough info about what mail server/ service you are trying to configure on the machine.
Respectfully, with the limited info that you have provided about what you're doing, it's clear you're in a little over your head.
Secondly, the start button ONLY turns green once you have either selected a pre-programmed destination or manually entered one -not simply because you have pressed the scanner button.

This thread has already been going around in circles and it's making me dizzy....

Delivery Server actually refers Scan Router V2 server which requires a either a Server 2000 or earlier or a dedicated Windows XP computer and will disable all other scan to folder. When you moved to a new location did you also change your ISP? Some ISP cable and DSL modems will block MFP access to SMTP unless the SMTP is the ISP's SMTP.

No offence but you sound like an end user and not an engineer /technician

It might be advisable to get a technician in to configure your machine.

Moving your machine can also mean several changes to your network and / ISP, which will require reconfiguration

And also what 1 of the other engineers said, the start button only turns green when a destination is selected

That was obvious from the first sentence of his post.

Thanks, yes i'm end-user and i have managed to configure the machine to the new network and ISP. I can see the machine on my router's network map and I have no issue with the printing. I'm also aware that the start button only turns green when a destination is selected. Machine is on dhcp.

Re: Can print but cannot scan

                          Do the following:
                          1. Attempt to test SMTP connection from the front panel
                          2. As soon as it fails, go to Interface settings and print the settings, button at the top of the tab.
                          3. The last page will be a communication log and should have at least one line reporting what had happened when you tested the SMTP connection

That will tell you what the internet error and if you are being blocked by the router/gateway/modem. Easier to use than Wireshark.

If you are a enduser, my advice is to call a tech, as this forum is for service engineers not endusers.
Please start you post with brand, model, problem.

I recommend that you get an engineer /technician to configure the machine for you but if you still want to do it yourself you will need the following :

                              1) under email settings
Smtp server name / ip address
Username from your email service provider
Password from your email service provider
You need to know if it requires authentication
                              Port number (normally 25)

                              2) under network
                              Ip v 4 address
                              Subnet mask
                              Gateway address
                              Dns address

                              3) under address
                              Username
                              Email address

                              4) default senders name. This is under settings. Best to get to this from the control panel

Those are all the basic settings. ( I hope I'm remembering everything. It's alot easier when I'm in from of the machine)

Put those details in and test. If it doesn't work then you need to troubleshoot the problem.

I still do recommend that you get a technician. It can get tricky at times.
