Try firmware but if that fails it's the controller

        Re: Ricoh MP C3504 - 672-00

I very much doubt this is your solution, I'm just weighing in with an experience I continue to have with one of my customers that has this same issue on a regular basis:
In my case they have an MP501, and every so often (sometimes a couple of weeks, sometimes a couple of months), the machine throws the SC672 code. The first couple of times I saw it, I did things like reformat HDD and Memory clears, etc. I got it back up, but it seems that that was only coincidental, because I finally realized that the machine would always come to ready without the ethernet cable connected, and it turned out to be something to do with a program the use. There was always a job in the print cue that had the word "Java".
Much of this is out of my scope of knowledge, and they don't have an actual IT person and I'm not about to go digging around their system, but each and every time I cleared the print cue and restarted the machine it worked (obviously they do it themselves now).

BTW...before it's mentioned, the machine doesn't have Java, and I have it disabled in UT, and no other extended features are installed.

The real proof came when I was told that another person that usually works from home, but happened to be in the office on one occasion when I was there, and uses an old MP201, has the exact same issue, and managed to figure out the solution on her own at some point.
It's a weird one, that basically has the exact behavior of the much more common SC899.

Again, I doubt this will help in this case, but maybe it'll help someone else along the way, and I'm certainly open to any advice others may have.

Before changing the controller try switching SP5191 to the opposite of what it's currently on, if it's at 1 set it to 0 and vice versa. Stops the controller going to sleep causing stupid SC672's.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

I had this error come up a couple of months ago and again same machine same code. I did everything I looked up to do. Started with firmware, well the machine wouldn't even go into firmware update mode. Then disconnected the USB cable from the screen and the controller board. I then replaced the screen, as well as replace the USB cable. I also replace the HDD along with the cables. Nothing worked, I then replaced the screen, as well as replace the USB cable. I also replace the HDD along with the cables nothing worked so I ended up having to replace the whole machine.

I don’t want to assume that both these machines are going to follow the same fate, my question is, what advice do you have for me in the order of progression of where I should start and where I should focus on
If the device won't clear the error with a power cycle & won't accept a firmware update (Via SD card) & just shows SC672-00 then you'll need to replace the controller board.

Here's a troubleshooting bulletin on this code.

This is very helpful...so far the first machine is completely unresponsive to everything. Thinking that one is going to need a controller board swap. Second one allowed us to do the firmware and we are currently updating it as I type.

I will replace the first unit that's unresponsive in the field and go through that bulletin with this machine at the shop.

This is a PITA, any way I can prevent this from popping up elsewhere?

Second machine accepted the firmware. Updated, and is back up and running

In the city where I am, the current is very unstable and it generates this error 672 from time to time, but I have also noticed that so-and-so turns off the machine from the cable, or due to slow printing, (wsd), they turn off the machine abruptly and they restart to continue printing because for them the fault lies with the machine and not with the driver that they installed by plug and play, generating the creation of the wsd port.

                    Great!

On the device that won't accept the firmware update remove the controller board & all the memory, nvrams / chips etc clean all contacts carefully then re-seat everything.

I have had good results doing this.

If the machine is locked with the code it won't receive the firmw , how did you fix it by replacing the controller?
