Ricoh MPC3004 "Load paper in bypass tray" error, won't print

    Hi everyone,
The company I work for recently purchased a Ricoh MPC3004 - for some reason, when trying to print, the printer will throw an error that says "Load paper in bypass tray", even though I have set it to use Tray 1 which is full of paper. I should also mention that this is only happening to some users and also only 70% of the time. This makes it really hard for me to try and diagnose what is happening.

    Steps I've taken:
Switching the print settings to use Tray 2 instead of Tray 1
Setting the paper size to 8.5x11 instead of auto-detect

I'm really at a loss as to what's going on, especially because it prints fine for me every time and only sometimes for other users. I would appreciate any insight

it happens with *every* print or just with some prints?

if just with some, check if they're using Microsoft Office and, if they are, check the document's page configuration - MSO has the bad habit of ignoring driver settings in favour of individual document settings.

In Word - Layout tab, to the right of Page Setup here is a little arrow, check the paper settings in there.

Also, don't let Windows set the machine up itself or wrong port and driver hilarity will commence.

Sorry, my Office is in PT. Hope you get the idea:

And remember: IIRC this configuration is stored in the document - they need to save the document with the new settings, and repeat the steps for every document with that problem.

              Agree with TonerMunkeh.
Do not let Windows find the printer and install the driver automatically. Garbage!

Download the full PCL6 driver from Ricoh site, and do a manual install on the proper TCP/IP port.
My guess is you're using the (POS) Universal PCL6 driver that likely installed itself on a WSD or IPP port.

When properly installed you WILL NOT have to select or program the preferred tray. It will auto select the appropriate tray / size

All word processing software does, not just Office 365. It allows you to do things such as print page 1 from the company letter head tray and the rest of the document/letter on plain paper. Assuming of course that the printer is set to use Document/Command as opposed to Machine setting for tray selection.

Where is it that you have changed those settings the C2004, the driver or the document? There should be a setting on the C3004 Home Screen - Settings - Printer Features that sets whether the tray priority will be determined by the Machine (C3004) settings or the Document/Command settings.

In addition to size, paper type setting can cause a paper mismatch and cause the C3004 to request the requested Type of paper be placed in the bypass.

My experience is that Windows automatically installs Microsoft's Ricoh Type driver which only supports limited options.

This will be a driver setting. Check ALL settings are ALL set to your default paper size AND weight.

Also check they are all using the correct PCL 6 driver for the MP C3004 & not on a WSD port.

I would start for good luck with a nice blow of air to the paper presence sensor, then set the "continue immediately" setting in printer settings, and as the others say use the pcl6 driver, making sure that the port is IP type and not WSD
