    Ricoh 2045 Poor Scan Image

This machine copies and prints beautifully but the scan density/quality is poor. The customer is using Adobe Acrobat "Create PDF" to scan documents. The dpi is set to 600 and the density setting on the scanner is set at the darkest. It appears that the scanned image has a "stepped" appearance which creates a loss of small bits of the image. The image quality is the same scanned from the feeder or the glass. There are quite a few adjustments in scanner image portion of the service mode, it is a bit disconcerting. I have access to a service manual but it hasn't provided much help so far. Attached is a sample scan.

    Thanks,

Scanrouter or is this an E model that can scan to folder? Sounds like either Compression of PDFs or dirty optics by looking at that image.

seems not like a 600 dpi.... if this is a scanner prob or dirty optics it should appear on copies... but as you said copies are fine... its like a 100 dpi....
fix the customer first then fix the machine... its simple and makes life more easy.

This means you are using the Twain Driver correct??
If it is the 'e' model set it up to scan directly to folder and then those setting on the copier will work. If it is the non 'e' model setup Scanrouter Lite. The quality will increase dramatically.

With the pull (Twain) scan mode you will get a popup screen where you can adjust the quality of the scan. DPI, deskew etc.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

Yeah I was thinking sounds like Twain, but he says its set at 600DPI. Been so long since I've messed with Twain. It's such a pain in the ass I always setup scan to Desktop if possible.
