    IC card reader/writer

    Hi, all.
I have a B079 I absolutely HAVE to do a firmware update on. Can someone tell me where to get an external card reader/writer for the 4 meg ricoh IC card I have? The ones I've looked at I'm not so sure it will work in them. Is there another name for this type card? All I know is 4 meg flash or IC card. Thanks much for any input.

I think that if you have an oldish laptop that accepts full-sized PCMCIA cards will do the trick. Of course you also need the software to write the card - but I can't help you there.

I've got Ricoh memory card explorer on floppy, but I'm fresh out of old laptops.

Just an update. I finally found one that will fit into an open PCI slot on my desktop from Cyberguys.com. It was made by Ricoh and will support types I,II, and III pmcia cards. Glad there's people still selling old tech out there.

Make sure you get the Type D memory card. I'm pretty sure the type C will not work for you.

Update on the card. It would not work on my PC. The instructions state that if you can't get it to work on your PC, try installing it on another computer. What a crock.

I know that this MCE software might not work with every mainboard/pcmcia chipsets. I think it's easy to ask another dealer in you region if he might help you out preparing/loaning the cards since this is probably a "one time" need. I haven't updated a pcmcia - based machine since years.

Btw - why do you have to update it anyways?

I was giving the people on this forum an update on my previous post. I needed to upgrade the firmware on a B079 so I purchased a PCI to PCMCIA controller card so I could burn firmware to the flash card. I was not having a problem with MCE, just the controller card I bought, as in it was not compatible with all PC's. As for the reason I needed to install firmware on the machine itself, I don't remember now. That was nearly 2 years ago.

You must buy a Ricoh PCMCIA card,
You must buy a Ricoh PCMCIA (PCI) adapter(for desktop computer maybe you want to buy a old laptop),
NEW PCI TO PCMCIA CARD ADAPTER (RICOH 485 CHIPSET) | eBay
You must download the Ricoh memory card explorer (PCMCIA write tool)
You must download the firmware file.
