    Aficio MP C2050 Installation

    Hello Ricoh Experts,

My company just purchased a Ricoh MP C 2050 outright (with no service contract), and as the System Administrator here, I am responsible for this machine. I realize these may be some pretty basic questions. As a fairly technical guy, my speciality is really in domain administration and network security - not Ricoh installations.

At any rate, I have set the machine and tested all features. I am happy to say, all features are working; however I have a few requirements for my environment.

1 - I would like to use "User Code Authentication" to keep track of jobs.
2 - The machine should be a Black & White machine for financial reasons.
3 - Color should be allowed to 3 individuals.
4 - Little to no interaction from the user when installing the print driver.

I have successfully installed and shared the Printer on one of our Print Servers with the RICOH Aficio MP C2050 RPCS print driver.

I was able to successfully enable User Code Authentication on the machine through the Web Image Monitor and add entries to the address book and specify Black & White to each user. My problem is when a user adds the Print Driver. They can go into the Printer Configuration and put in their access code, however if they do not switch "Color/Black and White" drop down from Color to Black and White, it will appear their job has printed (even though it has not). This is for requirement 4 above. I would like the job to print no matter what (but just come out in Black & White).

Please also note that if I go into Printer Properties of the driver on the Advanced Options tab and click the Limitation Settings... button, all choices are greyed out and can not be changed.

Again to confirm, I would like User Code Authentication and for the machien to print any job sent to it in Black and White unless a color user code is specified.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

    Oh, I forgot to mention.

I do not want to use "Windows Authentication" because I don't want users having to input their domain information to make a quick copy.

This is why we charge a connection fee for these. It is poor planning on your part by not getting a maintenance agreement, especially on color machines.

Well, good thing is they are not rocket science.

I've developed a work-around in the mean time.

        Thanks for nothing.

Well, if the instructions were written by someone who spoke English it would be simple. But, after spending some time going through the Image Monitor, I have found that any high school drop-out would be able to set them up (and repair them too).

Plug a few cables in here and there, run the setup programs and voila.

I agree, they made it simple enough for the IT department to set up.

if you are using user-code to keep track. dun use rpcs. as it will store the code perm. use pcl instead.
