How do I specify the file format when sending received faxes to an e-mail or a folder?
Answer
It is possible to convert a TIFF file to PDF format when transferring a document received by fax to a PC folder or e-mail address.
Here, we will describe how to change the file format of a document received by fax.
Note
- It is necessary to have already made the settings for transferring fax documents to a shared folder on a PC or an e-mail address.
- Press the [User Tools/Counter/Inquiry] button.
- Press [Facsimile Features].
- On the [Initial Settings] tab, press [Parameter Setting].
- Press switch [21].
- Press bit [3]. Switch: 21, Bit: 3
File format for files forwarded to e-mail destinations or folder destinations.
0: TIFF
1: PDF
- Confirm that the value for bit [3] is selected as required, and then press [OK].
- Press [Exit].
- Press [Exit] in [Facsimile Features].
- Press [Exit] in [User Tools/Counter/Inquiry].

Teebee is right, but some models can only fax forward as a tiff to email.
Fortunately, this model can do tiff or pdf.
If you have access to a publication called "GEN-078", this will list which models do and don't support the option.
I can't post that bulletin here without getting my hiney in hot water.“I think you should treat good friends like a fine wine. That’s why I keep mine locked up in the basement.” - Tim HawkinsComment

Like, oops!
It turns out that, at least according to the bulletin, that this model DOES NOT support fax forwarding to email as a pdf; I was thinking it did.
Here is a section of the bulletin describing that. (I think I can do that without angering the copyright gods.):
