MP 4000 toner bottle empty but the panel says toner full

    Hi folks!

I have this toner issue on a MP 4000. The toner bottle is empty but the control panel on the "system status" says toner full 91-100%

    Can you help me ?!?!?!?!?!

Replace the empty toner and ignore this info or disable the remaining toner icon display - it doesn't work reliable because this machine doesn't use ID chips for the toner bottles (like with the MPC series). If a toner is (almost) near and the machine goes into toner (near) end condition but recovers without replacing the toner it thinks it got a new bottle and resets the remaining toner data - no matter if a new bottle has been installed or not.

Hi the machine is MP4000 b/w multifunction.

The great problem is when the machine goes to empty toner, with no supply alarm, the customer continues to use the machine, so the machine start to print with developer until the customer call a technician because the poor quality of copies.

check the TD sensor output.verify the setting of sp2208(pixel or sensor)try to force toner it will help you isolate if toner supply unit is functioning.post the SMC.

Nope - the machine won't continue printing if the toner is empty. The "real" toner (near) end conditiondetection is based ONLY of the TD sensor readings so it doesn't matter if the machine thinks it got a new toner bottle. BUT there's actually a SP setting you can change to avoid that the machines allows too many prints AFTER toner near end detection.

In case the machines displays toner end but the bottle is not empty you probably have a faulty toner supply unit (mylars fell of the paddle-wheel inside the hopper).

But the problem is exactly this: the machine don't warn empty toner condiction nor near end condictin.

So you can continue printing until white pages comes out? Hard to imagine....

These machines does actually tend to print very lite. Blacks looks OK (more or less) right after the PM but becomes lighter very quickly within the 1st thousand of prints. Unfortunately there is no fix for that like adding toner manually and re-calibrate TD/ID sensors - it just looks better for a short while but the process control does it's own trick to make the blacks lighter again and again.

That's why it's recommendable not to allow the machine to continue printing after toner near end condition because there's not much headroom if the blacks are generally weak - you machine halready has a better setting (10pages after toner near end instead of max. 90) - see SP2213.

If you still think your machine is worse than that you can check the inside of the toner hopper (mylars) and maybe replace the TD sensor. You should also take care to use original toner and pm parts. Btw. what's the PM count say for developer and drum?
