[Error Code] New MP301's and SC202/204

We have had 3 machines now come out of the box with SC204, two did it pretty much straight away, one has thrown a 202 after a week with the client (hours drive, bugger!).

It is a fault within the laser unit. We can sometimes reproduce the code by opening/closing the DF, sometimes you need to be rough with the door and let it 'slam' a little to get it to do it. The problem is VERY intermittent even on machines that we know have coded before.

Right now we have laser units on B/O so for you indie guys it might pay to see if you can get a spare when you buy the machines. The part is D1271850 OPTICAL WRITING UNIT:ASS'Y

    Have fun.

We also have quite a few of these in field and yes We have experienced these problems as well But we only replaced the Polygon Motor P/N D1271956 and that solved the problem

Yet my question is why So early not even 2000 prints surely there must be a problem on the manufacturing side of these units.

      Re: New MP301's and SC202/204

I raised this with my next level support and got this reply:

There is an RTB from Ricoh for this issue:

Ricoh say its due to the charge spring arching on the back of the pcu, suggested fix would be to restore spring to its original condition and add conductive grease to the charge plate on the rear of the Pcu.

      Hope it helps.

I can't see such an RTB in the docs I have available to me.. is there an accompanying image? I have a 301 to hand in the workshop and can't identify a spring anywhere on the rear of the PCU, unless it is hiding behind a cover.

This is all I have at present.

I photographed an MP161 drive section, but it should be much the same.spring.jpg

I replaced the polygon motor, swapped lasers, replaced boards but nothing fixed the problem. By chance one day I found the ground wire between the right door and main box was broken. Replaced the ground wire and haven't had a problem since.

Niceville318,. Can you be more specific on which ground wire are you referring to???, as I have a MP 301 with SC 204 occurring intermittently. Thanjs in advance.

I can only imagine it has to do with the loom that plugs into the frame from the door side.

There is no other ground connections between the door and mainframe, unless he is referring to the metal contacts on the rear side of door in the area of the transfer roller...

Thanks Phil B, I knew it was a long shot, it was just another option for me to look into trying to resolve this issue on a device at the moment.

Cheers Polarbear, yep that's the only loom type thing I can see. I have checked and thoroughly cleaned the grounding plates in the area you are referring to. I have a Polygon motor PCB & Door Switches on order, although I am not looking forward to getting into the area the switches are located, unless anyone knows an easy route to get into them to replace??
                      Thanks for responding.
