    Plockmatic SR90+ stapler alignment

    Hi Copytech people,

I'm new to the world of printing and finishing machines. I've just bought a second hand SR90. I'm having trouble aligning the staples to the fold. I've managed to adjust the staple head positions, but then the bar underneath that presses the staple in to shape isn't in the right place, and the staples don't work properly. This bar doesn't seem like it's supposed to move. Anyone done this? I suspect I'm probably adjusting the wrong bit :s

    Hope someone can help me!

    Thanks a bunch,

    Paul

    Hi
You need to perform these adjustments in order:
1.Adjust staple to clincher. To do this, remove one staple head and gently push one staple out so the legs of the staple form and protrude a few mm.Carefully replace the head and push it down gently so the legs of the part formed staple approach the clincher points, you should be able to see if the legs look central to the clincher points, adjust as necessary, sounds like you know which screws to adjust for this. Repeat for the other staple head.
2.Next, go into service mode (tools) and do a paper size reset using the special shaped tool which should be with the bookletmaker, possible under rear cover. Service mode has a password, only one I know is 107. Paper size reset will align the guides so staples are made in the centre of the flat A4 sheet. You can check this by stapling a few sheets in service mode, engergise the staple motor.
3.If the staples are central check the fold, it should be on the staples. If not you need to adjust the fold stop which is the black hinged plate low down on the left beneath the conveyor/stacker.There are adjusting screws front and rear on the silvery metal part, adjust them equally or you will get fold skew. Dont adjust the central screw on the black hinged plate.
Hope that makes sense and helps.

      Hi Shedman,

Thanks for info. I did manage to download a service manual for it and so I've done everything I can to it (don't have the special tool though alas). It more or less works, but it's not especially consistent. Adjustment of the fold was a right pain, and just when you think you've got it right, you tighten up the retaining screws and it all moves again. Can't say I'm impressed with the machine!

      Cheers,

      Paul

We supplied a plockmatic to a customer about 10 yrs...biggest pile of crap ever, they had if for 6 months & could never get it to work properly, everytime they used it, i had to be there....manufacturer kept supplying parts..eventually i told them to come over & sort it....engineer came over all smug, tried to make out it was the operator & then me....after spending a morning at the customers...they took it back & gave a refund....
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

I can't imagine how wrong it would go if it was working inline with a printer. Damn thing seems to fail every few goes.
