    [Electrical] New Controller NVRam

Replaced nvram on a MP C4502 controller. The machine will not recognize the network portion of the controller now. The machine would sit and read "please wait" for a couple of minutes and then throw a SC998-00 code. With the new nvram the machine comes ready, but does not give me access to the network section of the controller. Are there any settings that need be changed to activate this portion of the controller? Or has the controller itself gone "toes up" and the nvram only helps with part of the issue? Thank you in advance.

SC998 has something to do with the RAM-DIMM or ROMM-Dimm, Defective Controller or a software problem. The service manual mentions a possible solution could be to turn SP5-875-001 tob 0 (Auto reboot).

What was the reason to replace the NVRAM? Did you do a backup before replacing the NVRAM, and reload it when the NVRAM was replaced?

Cheapest place to start. We are a small operation and do not wish to pay for parts that may not be needed.

If you replace the NVRAM for whatever reason, you should always backup the contents of the old NVRAM and reload it in the new one. After replacing the NVRAM you should do a memory all clear (SP5-801-001) and then reload the backup to the new NVRAM. The NVRAM is like the brains of the machine. It won't function unless you reload the backup.

I seriously doubt SC-998 is NVRam.
Try disconnecting the HDD and Fax and see if it boots up normally (but with limited functionality). Could also need a firmware re-load, Or defective controller

Check sp 5985-1 and make sure it is set to 1

Did you reenter the serial # when you replaced the NVram???? I agree with sandmanmac that it's not likely to be NVram. And if I did suspect the NVram, I would do the backup of nvram (like Eric1968 said)and then a ram clear to see if that helps. Then you can restore the settings from the backup.

Have, since posting the original thread, updated the firmware. The machine now comes ready on every restart except after coming out of energy save mode in the mornings. Cycling the power during the day poses no problem, machine restarts fine. Are we powering off too soon after coming out of energy save?

Today I had an SC998 (MP C3002) which was caused by the Fax Unit. If the Fax Unit wakes up earlier than the Controller the Fax Unit will stall beacuse it doesn't have a connection with the controller and this caused this SC. Updating the fax firmware solved it.

Installed new formatted HDD and got mixed results. When machine was turned on, it saw the new HDD and neede to format HDD. Let machine format HDD and cycled power. Copier came ready. I waited a few minutes and cycled power again and screen read please wait for several minutes and then informed me of a functional error, restart machine. After restart, machine gave a SC998. Are we really looking at needing a new controller?

SC998 is not a HDD-problem, so replacing it won't solve the SC998. Upgrade firmware, and if that doesn't work it's one of the DIMM's or the Controller.
