Cannot Print Multiple Copies On Ricoh C4501

    Hi Guys,

I was trying to print 10 copies of a book 128pp pagecount. Duplex mode, no cover stock, using 80gsm paper. Single colour black only. PDF file. However, I have set the lpi and colour profile within PDF for image reproduction. I am using all postscript drivers.

I tried sending it using mac (OSX 10.5.8)or windows (Win 7), the machine just print out 1 copy perfectly and then stops. No error msg, no blinking lights, no beeping sound?

If I was just sending another document 8pp, I can set it to print even up to 500 copies. Am I doing something wrong? I have logged into the web admin and print spooling is turned on.

I also tried sending it first to the document server before printing. However, I would lose all the halftone information and the duplex within the document server misalign by alot. If the document is printed via the document server, then yes, I can print out multiple copies.

Is there something wrong that I did?

    Thanks for all the help

Re: Cannot Print Multiple Copies On Ricoh C4501

    Hi Guys,

I did alot of googling and discovered that this is actually a common issue with alot of printers. If I were to print a multipage document and set in the PDF print dialogue to collate AND want to print multiple copies, then only 1 set will come out. If I turn off the collate option in the print dialogue, then I can print multiple copes. However, the printout will be un-collated.

Anybody here found a workaround or solution to this issue?

    Thanks

In the Ricoh print driver preferences there is a setting for collating. Printing Preferences - Detailed Settings tab - Finishing. For the PCL6 driver, it is a check box labeled "Ignore Application Collate". For the PostScript drive it is Collate On/Off. What ever the current setting, change it and see what happens. I don't own a Mac so I can't help you there. To me apples are something to eat.

        HaHa... Hi Slimslob.

Nice to hear you are not an Apple fanboy... Just to update the situation. The so called collate option only appears in the Windows PCL and PS driver. However, both also dont work. My document either refuses to collate or refuses to print multiple copies. I cant have both. On the MAC side, there is no "Collate" option in the driver setting. Maybe those tech in Ricoh also think that Apples are meant to be eaten only. Thus, they purposely leave out this option.

        Any other workaround?

        Thanks

Does the machine have the PS3 option installed? If so, print out the Configuration Page from User Tools -> Printer Settings. If it doesn't say at the top that PS3 is installed then you have a faulty PS3 card.
Make sure you are printing through IP direct and not mDNS/Appletalk, as these are SLOW.

Also, check the printer error log on the Print button or in WIM.

I would say the issue is related to a paper type/size mismatch. If you turn auto continue off and then resend the job it should flash red on the printer button and give you an idea where things are going wrong. Auto continue setting is in user tools, printer features, system, auto continue. Check the paper tray settings, are they locked or named eg colour, letterhead. If they reset to plain and remove any lock or enable duplex. Just my two cents
