Scan to folder problems on Ricoh SPC231SF

I'm having problems setting up scan to folder with a Ricoh SPC231SF. All I keep getting is "Server Connected" and then "Server Connection Failed"

so so here's what I've done.....

Laptop running Win 7 64bit with user name & password, have created a simple folder on desktop called Scans.

I've then shared the folder and in the Advance tab in Sharing, clicked Permission, Added a new user/object, and Allowed full permissions to that account. That I believe is all I need for folder setup.

ive then gone to web browser, Scan to Folder, and created

    Full Name = Scans
Service Name = \\User-Laptop\Scans. (This is the path where the folder sits, It works as I've tested it from the search bar and Internet search bar)
User Name = Name of Laptop
    Password = Password of laptop

I've then tested but just keeps failing, I've turned off windows firewall to no avail and ive also turned off AVG anti-virus which the machine also fails...

can anyone help me on this at all just in case I've not covered all bases...

BTW Firmware is all up to date on the SPC231Sf

sorry if it's a long-winded post but wanted to make sure I got everything on here that I've done.

    many thanks in advance

Try putting the 'scans' folder in the root directory.Less issues this way.
Is it on a domain? If so, add the domain extension in front of the username in the address book
Try setting read/write folder permissions to 'everyone' for testing.
Also try booting the laptop into 'Safe mode' and trying it then to make sure there are no programs or services impeding the SMB port.

your user name and password needs to be the user and pw to log onto the pc with not the name of the pc. The hostname of the computer is used in the path to the shared folder.

Also watch out for Norton or Avast firewalls enabled. Disable them and then try your scan to see if they are the problem. If they are you can create a rule for smb or make the copier a trusted user on the network.

Another thing might be to check the network whether it is home, work, or public. If it is labelled a public network then it might not allow smb scanning.

In network and sharing centre, open up change advance sharing setting , enable file and printer sharing , disable the password protection . on the machine side, set user name be your computer name and leave the password blank. If still cannot , use the ip address instead of computer name and make sure your NetBIOS are enable.

Thanks for advice MCC-support, tried scans folder in root directory made no difference. No Domain so no need to worry there. Done Read/Write folder permissions to everyone still no difference.

tried safe mode still no difference.

Thanks for for your reply... user name and password is the user and pw to log into laptop. Host name of PC is the path. Like I said, turned off anti virus... Still no difference.
            network is set to home.

thanks for reply ccchuah, laptop was already enabled for file/print sharing, although the password was on, turned off and did same on machine side... Still no difference.

For some reason by using the IP address instead of the computer name its started to work.

I would just like to thank everyone for there replies, the problem is sorted now by not using the PC name and using the IP address instead. It's not something I wanted to do as I run DHCP but I've fixed the laptops address and its scanning all ok direct to folder.

I'm confused why it won't work with PC name as PC name or IP gets me to the folder either via web address or using the search bar, so I can only put it down to this make/model of machine,

                Many thanks all

Your DNS is what resolves hostnames. So if the IP address works but not the computer name then your DNS is incorrect. This will also cause problems for internet browsing (if your are running the java app) and scan to email (if you are using the smtp server name ie smtp.telus.net). Could also cause print issues but not necessarily.

There is no way that this suggestion will work. Windows 7 SMB requires a user name with password.

Re: Scan to folder problems on Ricoh SPC231SF

I alway use machine IP address first off and get everything working, then change over to machine/pc name.
Doing this first would allow you to avoid problems with DNS serves and correct IP.
You may have run into a problem if the user renames their own Computer user account or if they delete the Scan folder.
If they rename their user account scan to folder SMB authentication goes off into limbo land. I believe Windows can hold the old user name in system restore settings some how and prevents the new rename user from working with SMB authentication.
If this is the case you can create a new user with admin rights on the local PC called ricoh with any password and use the newly created ricoh account to authenticate SMB scan to folder.
If user deletes the scan folder and creates it new again, SMB authentication can also stop working.
You can force/grant the scan folder to reshare with full access rights in a DOS window with
                      net share c:\scans/grant:"user-account here",full
