Ricoh MPC 2500 excessive paper curl+dog ear

We have several of these in the field, but one has an excessive paper curl problem which leads to the copies dog earing in the exit section. Ricoh recently added some SP modes for paper curl, but only tells you they are for a certain type of paper in the Japanese market. We messed with them to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, or know of an adjustment that can be made to the fuser, or in SP modes that will help?

This is not related to the 'dog earing in duplex mode' service bulletin, as it occurs on single sided copies.

Have you messed with adjusting fuser temps (not just the sp modes on curling) a bit to see if it helps? Is it possible that a guide or something is a little warped or something, maybe caused by heat?

Is it possible to compare the different machines that do not have the curl and the one that does, and carefully see if there is not a guide slightly out-of-place or warped?

It sounds as though it may be that, but without seeing them, I'm just taking a guess at it.

      excessive curl

I had excessive curl on single sided copying on the ricoh. Customer had 90gsm paper in the cassette and when it came out the exit it wouldn't sit flat resulting in the occasional jam as the paper backed up.

Spoke to ricoh tech who sugessted changing the cassette to thick media or middle media i think, but it made no difference. Dismantled the fuser 3-4 times and checked everything (m/c had done about 10k) I thought about adjusting a blue screw but was advised by ricoh not to adjust anything on the fuser and the temp change wouldn't do nothing either.

I ended up sending a supervisor in and later found out that the only thing that stopped it curling was to use 80 gsm paper!

Customer was using canon grade paper and also had another high quailty paper that i tried out of the packet - so the paper was good quailty as well.

You might want to try a fresh ream of paper. Our clients that use "economy" paper have many more problems with humidity in the paper. It also might open up an opportunity to sell them some paper.

Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.

I had a different model of copier (A229) one time that wasn't curling, but it was dog-earing the paper at the fuser/exit section every five sheets or so, but only when duplexing. So I swapped the duplexer, fuser, and exit section separately between machines, and the problem followed the exit section. So I cleaned the exit section paper feed rollers, and the problem went away temporarily, but it came back the next day. So I replaced the rollers, and problem solved.

The curl may be causing the dog-earing by itself, or you may have two separate problems.

I usually don't repost with my solutions, but in case anyone else runs into this, it turned out to be the interchange unit. Couldn't find anything wrong with it, but problem went away after it was replaced. Thanks for all your suggestions.
