    Sharp Lines on scanned document

    Hi.

I have Sharp MX-3100n which makes lines on scanned document from glass and ADF. Lines are all way long (longer edge on A3) and always in the same place.

I attached scanned chart. You can see lines on printed woman face.

Prints are fine without lines so there must be a problem with scanner only.
I cleaned glass, mirrors under adf glass (2 mirrors) and lens under black plastic cover located on the right side under the glass but without any result.

Could you help me to solve this problem please?

    Thanks
    Jack

I agree that it is a scanner issue. If this were my call I would clean the scanner optics again very carefully, including the two mirrors, the laser slit glass both sides, and the face of the CCD lens. I would also clean the scanner rails and apply just a few drops of straight weight 30W motor oil to the scanner rail. If you are getting friction from the scanner, the mirrors can tip, showing a different section of the mirror face. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for reply. I will clean it again. Do you think is it anything else what can cause it?

      Regards

I had a Bear once that was fixed by reseating the CCD ribbon cable.

        #1) that's very unusual
#2) always be cautious with ribbon cables. It's easy to damage the contact surfaces and latches, and the latches are sometimes not so easy to figure out.

Bit late on this but you could calibrate the CCD array using 63-3 and a sit chart

Unfortunately I do not have SIT Chart. Should I go to 63-5?

are the lines there when you run black and white?

I see color lines thru the grey's in you sample. Do as blackcat suggests. Have firmware handy.

Lines are not so visible like on color copies. They are not visible between pictures (only in the middle (between pictures) I can see 4 cut lines - about 2cm long). Lines are visible in the picture - woman face, RGB belts)

Don't forget to remove the cover over the lens so you can clean the back side of the lens and blow off the front of the CCD.

Hello blackcat I followed your advise and cleaned optic again. You were right saying 'very carefully'. I had to use a bright light to find a very little dust on mirror. That solved my problem. Thanks.

Glad you got it fixed - the bright light always helps when cleaning mirrors checking for dirt or haze.
