    Sharp MX-2700 DNS issues

I believe I'm having a DNS issue with the a Sharp MX-2700 MFP.

In the address book, when specifying a Network Folder Address Type, and the Folder Path as \\<IP ADDRESS>\folder the scan functionality works.

However, when specifying \\<SERVER HOSTNAME>\folder, the scan functionality does not work. Looking through the logs I find: Send Error 80-0000

Now the path \\<SERVER HOSTNAME>\folder works on all other scanners in our office (Sharp MX-2300, Sharp MX-M283), . So I'm assuming there is a specific DNS issue with this scanner. Is there any way to clear the DNS cache on this specific MFP, as this may help resolve the IP address of the SERVER HOSTNAME

    Thank you,

Also, this issue only started happening after a repair technician came to replace a part for a paper jamming issue.

He may have changed a couple of settings, but all the settings look fine to me: DNS, IP Address, SMTP, etc.

Try resetting the NIC (should be an option in the network settings section of the system settings, a button labeled as such). Good place to start when having strange issues like this.

If all else fails, just stick to using the IP address, since the DNS is just resolving the host name to the IP address. Seems you already have your solution at hand!

        Thank you for your Reply.

I tried resetting the NIC as you said, which reverted the TCP/IP settings to DHCP. I then tried to scan using the \\<SERVER HOSTNAME>\folder and it worked.

However when changing it back to static IP address as it was previously before the repair technician came, it would not work again.

The DNS server is on a different subnet then the static IP, but the DHCP IP address range is also on a different subnet...

When inputting DNS settings, are you using settings of a local ISP or the router itself? In cases of DNS failure, the router itself can also act as a DNS server, just input the router IP address as the DNS server.

In general terms of DNS settings, you can also use public DNS servers (I use Google public DNS of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I'm not sure how well they would do for a local network folder scan, however.

Had something similar to this yesterday with a MX3140. Wound up needing to add the domain name to the copier network settings. DNS didn't populate this entry so needed to do it manually.

            Good luck.

              Re: Sharp MX-2700 DNS issues

              Hello,

I've tried re-entering our FQDN (fully qualified domain name) where it says "Domain Name" under "DNS Settings" in "Network Settings"

I've also tried pinging our two DNS servers (Domain Controllers) by IP address that were specified on the scanner under "DNS Settings" in "Network Settings. Both of them said " Response received from the host server. (Successful 4 times)."

Is there anyway to ping a hostname from the scanner?

Is there anyway to do a mass rename on Address Book entries from \\<HOSTNAME>\folder to \\<IP ADDRESS>\folder? I know I can export the Address Book using "Storage Backup" on the scanner to a .BIN file. If I Find and Replace all instances of my HOSTNAME with the IP ADDRESS and re-import it to the scanner, do you think it will break anything?

              Thank you for your help!

                Re: Sharp MX-2700 DNS issues

Error 80-xxxx in the job log can be caused by these things:

                NIC connect failure (network abnormality)
・ Check for disconnection of cables.
                ・ A network trouble (CE-XX) occurs.
・ The port is set to DISABLE.
・ Authentication of the POP server is failed when POP before SMTP is enabled.
・ When an error other than the communication result code 93 or 94 in D-SMTP send (including
                error response of 5XX)

                Good luck.

Try assigning it an address on the same subnet as the DNS server.

                    RESOLVED: Sharp MX-2700 DNS issues

                    Hello Everyone,

                    Thank you for your time.

I decided to export the address book, find/replace all HOSTNAME with IP ADDRESS and re-imported it - temporary workaround to this issue to get the scanner back up and running for the office.

DNS is cached on the network switches and routers. A simple (not always "simple") power reset on them will force them to rebuild their DNS cache.
